Cleo

I named my first guinea pig this in the 80s, inspired by Cleos Laine and Rocos. What do we think? Is it ripe for revival? I think it's rather chic and sultry sounding and an alternative to the very popular Chloe. Derived from Greek kleos (glory, fame). Would it have to be short for Cleopatra?

I love the name. Like the fish in pinnochio. One of my primary school teachers was called Cleo (she seemed really old back then. I wonder how old she really was).

BibiBelle · 24/09/2011 08:30

I LOVED it but DH said no for DD3, there won't be a DC4 Sad so won't get to use it.

I was going to use it as a stand alone not short for Cleopatra.

IvyAndGold · 24/09/2011 09:06

I loved Cleo when I was pregnant! Another completely unreasonable DP veto! I wouldn't have it as a nn for Cleopatra, though I'm normally quite against nn as first names.

BibiBelle · 24/09/2011 09:11

IvyandGold the irony was he wanted to call DD3 the name he'd completely vetoed for DD2!!! Hmm

IvyAndGold · 24/09/2011 09:13

I'd veto it out of principle! But then I am a petty cow Grin

BibiBelle · 24/09/2011 09:15

Well she's had it for 3yrs now so I think I've missed the boat on that one [girn]

YaMaYaMa · 24/09/2011 09:24

I love it, but don't like cleopatra as the full name, anyone know another name it could feasibly be used as a nn for?

slartybartfast · 24/09/2011 09:33

i like it loads more than chloe.

MurunBuchstansangur · 24/09/2011 09:34

I love it :)

bagelmonkey · 24/09/2011 11:52

YaMaYaMa why not Cleo as a full name in it's own right?

A colleague of mine named their dd Cleo a couple of years ago... Everyone's reaction was 'as in Renault??'

EdithWeston · 24/09/2011 13:34
. DCs just love the HH song.

They've never seen the car advert, so the HH association is the stronger one.

HattieBistro · 24/09/2011 18:22

Cleo Laine's real name is Clementine (Clementine Dinah Campbell).

DoctorX · 24/09/2011 19:01

No! Cleopatra is a much more beautiful name.

Happygomummy · 24/09/2011 19:13

Love it!

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 24/09/2011 20:06

I really Cleo it and yes, it does have sultry connotations.

It's one of those names that I think stands strongly in its own right - I really would not use Cleopatra - that's way too gimmicky.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 24/09/2011 20:07

That should say, 'I really like Cleo'!

PuppyMonkey · 24/09/2011 20:10

Cleopatra, comin' atcha.

Sorry, just had to say that. As you were.

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 25/09/2011 00:53

Well, quite. Grin

tabulahrasa · 25/09/2011 01:02

I prefer Clio - as in the muse of history, but it's got horrible car connotations :(

SheCutOffTheirTails · 25/09/2011 01:11

I really like Cleo, but not so much as a nickname for Cleopatra. Just Cleo is better.

mathanxiety · 25/09/2011 03:50

I love it as just Cleo. It has a jazzy quality to it yet it is sweet, but not the sugary sweetness of Chloe. I see it as a name for a spirited, spunky sort of girl. Great name to carry through life.

mathanxiety · 25/09/2011 03:51

I love Dinah too..

hokeycakey · 25/09/2011 08:10

My dd's name and love it!
