Penny?

DH and I cannot agree on a girls name, boys names sorted. I like Isla for a girl, dh doesn't. he likes Penny, which is growing on me but wondered what the general consensus was?

Oh I love the name Penny, I think it's sweet but not too frivolous, iyswim. Lovely name.

Maybe Penelope with Penny as a nickname? Gives a slightly more formal option, Penny is sweet but a bit young.

I love Penny, too. Have a favourite cousin called Penny. Maybe Penelope on birth certificate but Penny used. Doesn't conjur up any dodgy images.

I never thought about it before, but I do actually like Penny. I don't like Penelope, though.

The only Penny I have ever known was given the name because her mother gave birth to her on the toilet.
I can never get that image out of my head whenever I hear the name now.

Actually I think Penny suits babies and adults alike. Go for it!

It's our scary headteacher's name, so that kind of biases it for me!

An alternative to Penelope is Penninah - a Biblical name, rarely used. It would give her the additional option of Nina as a diminutive. Penny I think suits a little girl more than an adult, but as always it depends on the individual, and we never know how they will turn out

Funny enough DS wanted to call baby Penelope. DH is dyslexic so might be a bit long for him, we tried to stick to shortish names.

Penny is gorgeous.

I like both Penelope and Penny, and to have Penelope with Penny as nn gives two nice options. Prefer it to Isla which is getting a little faddy ATM.

Libby was another on our list. think I'm set on penny now but might change my mind at the time, only 3 weeks to go!

I think I would put Penelope on the birth certificate and call them Penny.

Bravo! Am always ranting on on here about people who put one name on the BC when they want to call their child something else.

It's a shame that some people can't see that naming a child is a privilege and a responsibility. It is not you that has to bear the name - it is the child. As the child obviously has no say in it at the time the name is chosen, the decent thing to do is to give them names that allow them some sort of choice later on. This is why I think it selfish to deny children a full traditional name, and fob them off with a nickname or a diminutive.

Yes, well it happened to me - my parents lumbered me with just a childish diminutive instead of the full value classic name which would have given me options. So I do know what I'm talking about.
