Baby being born 2 weeks today by ELCS, we have found boys names so difficult, already have a 3yo DD called Holly.

Other names on the list were Alex (will probably use Alexander as middle name) Theo, Danny and erm..thats it. Hmm

DH has now fallen in love with the name Jack, and i do like it but it is soooo popular and i was one of 10 Laura's at school and known by my initial so that puts me off a bit. DH says it doesn't matter really and i am overthinking it.

What do you think?

I'm also in the midlands, and there are loads of Jacks.

I am loving Warwick though! I have fantasised about using it if we ever have a boy, but DH might veto it - any future children will be born at Warwick hospital (which is a lovely hospital BTW), and me and DH both went to Warwick university... Other boys names I like (and TBH there aren't many - glad I had DDs or it would have taken weeks to name them!!!) are Zeke and Xavier (shameful Aussie soap habit, I know, I know!!!!! Blush).

I think Theo is nice, I don't know any round here, though there are a couple of girls called Thea. Wouldn't say their parents are from the "Greggs" crowd as someone called it earlier (LOL at that!!!).

puddingbasin · 07/09/2011 11:58

Despite it being the most popular boys name for years I only know one child called Jack. I like it.

rarebreed · 07/09/2011 11:58

I wish i could persuade DH with Sonny, i love it, but he insists it is a dogs name. He laughed when i suggested Levi and looked Hmm when i suggested Asher and Kelly.

There is part of me that is hoping i can push him to use one of those names while he is emotional straight after the birth Blush

Frankly, I think you should retain all rights of veto, and have the casting vote if it comes down to it. Use the ELCS as leverage if you have to.... Grin

mopsyflopsy · 07/09/2011 12:07

I honestly wouldn't name a child Jack Taylor - it has got to be one THE most widely used name as he grows us. Dull and possibly annoying for him imo. Sonny and Asher are more interesting and go well with Taylor imo.

Leanbh2011 · 07/09/2011 12:12

If you love it, go for it. Don't pick a name just cause it's "different"

mopsyflopsy · 07/09/2011 12:15

"Don't pick a name just cause it's "different""

But the whole point of naming someone/something is to IDENTIFY him/her so the more different the name, the better job it does at identifying him/her.

LetLoveRule · 07/09/2011 12:25

Jack is great name. Not one at dcs school as far as I know (big primary). In fact I have only come across one and my eldest dc is nearly 9!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 07/09/2011 12:27

The only Sonny I know has to be one of the coolest and best looking young men I've ever met Blush.

Now if only he weren't my friend's son, had a passion for the more mature lady and I could think of a way of sticking DH under the patio...........

rarebreed · 07/09/2011 13:20

Not picking just because it's "different" DD's name is quite normal, just not boring (in my opinion of course).
I just text DH to say i think we should call him Sonny. He said "i don't think so". Angry

Well, I have to agree that Jack is indeed very widely used and doesn't really do its job of identifying someone very well anymore. It has been THE number one name for a number of years so there are A LOT of little Jacks out there already. And yes, your surname (Taylor) is not excactly uncommon either so he will most certainly be one of many Jack Taylors.

I quite like Asher Taylor or Levi Taylor and agree that Sonny Taylor sounds good too.

3monkeys · 07/09/2011 13:26

Jack is gorgeous (as is my DS1!)
He was the only one in his year at primary school
I gave my children names that couldn't be altered, mine is always shortened to something I hate. Not much you can do with Jack

rarebreed · 07/09/2011 13:27

Yes i went to school with a very nice lad called Sonny Grin he was never teased or anything about his name, i never heard anyone even bring up the subject. I have told DH all of this but he just says 'but it's not a real name' Hmm

I have just sent DH a text:

"If you let me call him Sonny i will love you forever"

There's no point calling your DC a name you find boring, and TBH that you don't really seem to like much. Make it clear to your DH that you're not having it - he seems to have no problem doing that with your choice! I'm not trying to cause a row, but once he knows you really don't want to use Jack, then you can both move on. I would much prefer a Sonny to a Jack :)

jellybeans · 07/09/2011 14:03

Sonny is a brilliant name :)

SueFlay · 07/09/2011 14:13

SONNY! Yes! I want to call a future Sonny, mainly because is one of the most beautiful songs in the world

peanutbutterkid · 07/09/2011 14:15

I don't like Sonny. I do like Jack. Perfectly decent very English name.

rarebreed · 07/09/2011 14:38
