simply can't agree with OH. This is dd2, dd1 is sophie. (had no idea it was so popular - but still love it and it suits her perfectly). I feel OH should have more say as he didn't get much of a look in last time. Kathryn will be the middle name (family member) surname starts with L so lots of L names are out.
our short list is
Jessica (love Jess or Jessi), Francesca (both more his pref than mine) Anna (my pref). There's lots of others we like but don't agree on, and some maybes are Alexandra, Nina, Jo (not sure if nn for Josephine or Joanna).
We think she'll have strong features and personality wise up until today I would have said she seems quite an easy going happy soul, quite a twinkle in her eye. would like something kind of cool but not pretentious.
help!

I love Anna and Alexandra, and both go well with Sophie. And Francesca is lovely too. You have good taste.

AKissIsNotAContract · 01/09/2011 21:55

Marnie is short for Marina.

I don't know what it is short for. I knew a marnie at uni and she was v cool and confident, but nice too. If I'd had a girl I would have used it myself!

reddaisy · 01/09/2011 21:58

Georgia? I love that name but our next child is a DS.

ilovedjasondonovan · 01/09/2011 21:59

Hazel

LuckyLaw · 01/09/2011 22:01

Love Francesca. Can be shortened to Frankie when she's older which is cool but in not at all pretentious.

snoozealot · 01/09/2011 22:02

love georgia but is already in the close family so no go and hazel is ok but... i'm dreadful for shortening the name - haze?

Love Jess but Jessica is in the top 5 girls' names in the UK atm, tbh I might think you lack imagination having two v popular (but very lovely!) names!

Like Francesca. Frankie & Cheska are funky nns.

Really like Nina btw.

Love Marina nn Marnie, good suggestion!

How about

Maria Kathryn L
Phoebe Kathryn L
Martha Kathryn L
Hope Kathryn L
Louisa Kathryn L
Stella Kathryn L

ilovedjasondonovan · 01/09/2011 22:04

Yes, her school friends have shortened her name to Haze. We call her nutty.

snoozealot · 01/09/2011 22:08

lol IheartJD!

bird of the north I'm with you re the popularity thing - doesn't seem to bother OH. love your other suggestions esp maria and stella. love this site!

Scarlett
Amelia
Darcey
Isabella/Isabelle
Jennifer

AberdeenAngusina · 02/09/2011 10:55

In the film Marnie, wasn't Marnie short for Margaret?

mumofbumblebea · 02/09/2011 11:27

anna is lovely and goes with sophie really well. don't know any little annas myself atm so don't think its that popular nowardays.

pommedechocolat · 02/09/2011 12:31

I love Nina

whizzyrocket · 02/09/2011 15:18

Don't worry about names being popular- it won't bother them if it doesn't bother you. Jessica and Alexandra get my vote from your list. They're lovely timeless names that are both sufficiently different and complementary to Sophie.

LittleWhiteWolf · 02/09/2011 15:21

I like Anna best. That being said I know of a Francesca who gets called Chess which I find quite cool Blush

LuckyLaw · 05/09/2011 22:12

Have you settled on anything yet OP?

DigOfTheStump · 05/09/2011 22:29

Jennifer, Joanna, Susanna, Juliet.

PercyFilth · 05/09/2011 22:30

My aunt Marnie was short for Marjorie. That's a pretty name due a comeback.

Northernrose · 06/09/2011 09:43

Love Anna with Sophie (but am biased as dd1 is Anna and dd2 Sophia!) also love Nina. Also love Jess but not so much Jessica!
Let us know what you choose and congratulations!

snoozealot · 06/09/2011 10:08

no still haven't chosen but I'm not helping as I've now completely gone off Francesca (liked the Frankie nn initially but started to wonder if it was a novelty that'd wear off and wondered if it's really too old man/ blokey and if you'd appreciate it as an adult! would Fran/Frankie become Fanny at school?) think Anna is winning for me but not OH and really like Jo but can't settle on what it would be nn for; don't really like Josephine that much. I like all of DOTS suggestions - but OH won't go for any of them other than maybe Joanna. Aarghh!
