I seem to be in the minority here, but I adore Queenie. Dh wont let me have it though.
Miriam is lovely too.
How about Gloria?

FellatioNelson · 22/08/2011 07:23

Oh yes, and exactly what Wabbit said.

am Shocked at some of the nastiness on the name threads

AKissIsNotAContract · 22/08/2011 09:34

Paloma, Queenie and Dolly are the top 3 on my list of girls names.

BlackadderWentForthToMultiply · 22/08/2011 10:49

ah i do have a soft spot for paloma but DW won't stand for it.

Isn't it short for Victoria rather than ever being a given name?

I'd go for Victoria with Queenie as a nm if I liked it that much, then you can always change your mind.

LetThereBeRock · 22/08/2011 12:16

It's truly dreadful. You can't call a lovely new baby,'Queenie',well you could, but it'd be wrong.

LetThereBeRock · 22/08/2011 12:18

Dolly is also terrible. Are there any other candidates?

LetThereBeRock · 22/08/2011 12:20

Just found your list.

Miriam Beautiful
Clementine Awful. Why is this name so popular on MN?
Grace Lovely
Ella No
Beatrice No
Scarlet No
Sophia Nice
Shefali No
Shelly No

NoHunIntended · 22/08/2011 12:22

Oh, I like it! I have a very hip, glamorous, glorious minxy friend who goes by the nn Queenie, so those are my associations. She totally rocks the name. (Her real name is nothing regal at all, so not sure how she got Queenie).

cheesesarnie · 22/08/2011 12:27

nay to queenie!
like miriam with mimi for nn.
like dolly, could it be a nn for dorothy?(my dd is often called dolly esp by ds2,shes actually a molly).

cheesesarnie · 22/08/2011 12:28

oh and i like ritaGrin.

sonniebonnie · 22/08/2011 12:28

"Paloma, Queenie and Dolly are the top 3 on my list of girls names."

I actually think they're all lovely and make a refreshing change from all the Evies/Ellies etc these days. Yes, some people might still associate them with 'old' ladies but that perception will change as soon as they meet a young one Smile.

Shouldn't we encourage MORE name diversity - life is much more interesting if we all have different names!

MamaLazarou · 22/08/2011 12:28

I really like Queenie.

PercyFilth · 22/08/2011 12:29

Miriam is perfect, but if you are really devoted to 'Queenie' then how about Regina?

Regina can be pronounced either re-GEEN-a or re-JEEN-a. It means queen, of course, so Queenie could be a pet name, or she could go by Gina or Ina when she is older, if she prefers.

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 12:35

Argh no, NOT Regina - do you want the poor girl to go through school being called Vagina? She will, y'know.

PercyFilth · 22/08/2011 12:45

Why? it's not pronounced Re-JY-na. There is also the French version Régine.

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 12:47

Can be pronounced exactly that way, PercyFilth.
I had a friend called Virginia - that's not pronounced to rhyme with Vagina either but that's what she was called throughout junior school.

PercyFilth · 22/08/2011 12:50

You can't rule names out on the strength of nicknames that might be used. People come up with all sorts of embarrassing nicknames regardless.

I merely offered a suggestion to the OP, let him consider it.

Rhubarbgarden · 22/08/2011 12:56

I was once introduced to a Regina pronounced to rhyme with vagina. I nearly spat out my tea.

Miriam is gorgeous. Love it. I like Shefali too.

Thumbwitch · 22/08/2011 12:58

Yes I can, Percy, yes I can! Grin

hester · 22/08/2011 13:01

yay!

hester · 22/08/2011 13:02

I also like Miriam, a lot.
