Is your own name ever brought up on the baby name threads?

And what is the general opinion on it?

I don't think my name has increased in popularity significantly since I was born (at the moment it is around the 300-350 mark in the stats) but it is very frequently mentioned on here and seems to be pretty much universally adored on mumsnet :)

Yes, mentioned as an idea, but I dont believe anybody ever says, oh yes I like that one.

Mines another 'dead popular late 70's early 80's, pretty uncommon now'. It has come up, and was met with 'lovely, classic' etc.

I guess it's a pretty safe name. I don't hate it, and if I thought someone was going to name their child it I wouldn't think 'for the love of God NOOOO'...just 'meh'.

Interestingly, on the 'baby name' finder the predictions about clothes/ shops etc were spot on for my name! ( and my dc's). We must be walking MN cliches!

Yes plenty. It was a very unusual name growing up but more popular now polarising on mumsnet.

Some people love it but others denounce it as try hard, ever so popular round here, doesn't pass the judge or MP test

And it always provokes a debate on how to pronounce it.

Yawn.

Oh I too stand corrected after a brief search. 2 mentions. Once on a 'unusual girl's names' thread and once in the list of names posted on the 2010 stats thread. Apparently it's joint nr. 2589 with 9 girls being named that in 2010.
Only if I drop the extra -h at the end of my name that my parents added for their own strange reasons though (think Susanna - I'd be Susannah).

Rarely and mostly in threads about names that almost certainly won't make a comeback. It's a fair comment; it's not a nice name.

Mine is another 'typically 70's- I went to school with half a dozen' type name. I hate it. It's Joanne, am Jo to everybody (except my mother). It is a name I cannot imagine a 90 year old having. I have a lovely, classic middle name, and always wished that that had been my first name instead.

I've not seen it mentioned, but just did a search and got back over 500 posts, so I guess it comes up quite often... the ones I skimmed were all pretty positive about it. There were virtually NO others when I was growing up; I have still never met another anywhere near my age, but it's quite popular for girls now so I keep hearing people calling my name and turning to find that they are talking to a seven-year-old. On the plus side, I can now buy all the personalised mugs and door plaques I could ever want but could never find as a child.

Mine has been in a poncey/ try-hard name thread too I must remember to tell my parents

Also, one poster said they thought my name was OK, but it was the name of her husband's ex-girlfriend so she wouldn't choose it! Gave me a slight wave of paranoia, but even though it's not common, I'm not the ONLY person with this name!

Mine's been mentioned as a nice, sunny name on a couple of unusual thread names.

It's also been put forward as the exception to the rule that hyphenated first names are chavvy

The only thread dedicated solely to my name was entirely positive [smug]

I've just done a search and it actually appears a lot more than I thought... people either love or hate it... no-one ever seems to pick it though.

It also appears a lot on the contraceptive/health thread as people mis-spell the name of their pill. :o (That's one reason some people don't like it.)

Personally I love it!

Haha, I just searched my name and there are 1000 mentions, but not one of them are about names!

It would appear that a place with my name is very popular for camping, but not for naming DD's

I think I'm getting a bit too into this- I just searched for my middle name as well :o Not so good- it's dated apparently, which I probably agree with. I much prefer it with an -a on the end :)

georgimama I'm a Helen too,and I think I did see it suggested once... I know its not an unusual name but I do think it is a classic and very underused now. I also like Helena,which I was going to be,but my parents decided to drop the a.My mother had a cousin who died of cancer at 15 and her name was Helena.I'm named after her but they didn't want to use quite the same name as her death was so tragic.
