Alba?

What do you think of Alba for a girl? She was a time travelling child in 'The Time Travellers Wife' and quite a cool little lady. I'm wondering if this is making me like it more than I should :)

Isn't it an electronics manufacturer?

Sounds surnamey (Jessica Alba). How about Alma?

MrsHuxtable · 15/07/2011 14:13

I love Alba, had it on my shortlist. The only thing that put me off was that it is the Gaelic word for Scotland. Since we already live in Scotland it seemed a bit weird.

ghosteditor · 15/07/2011 14:19

love it, actually, for the same reasons as you. Go for it! I don't think all that many people will recognise it from the book, though.

razzlebathbone · 15/07/2011 14:31

My cousin just had her first baby last week and named her Alba after the character in TTTW. I had never heard of it before but it's really grown on me and I like the Scottish and Latin connotations too. I'd go for it. It's pretty and unusual but has a real historical feel.

lachesis · 15/07/2011 14:41

Sounds like something Victoria Beckham would call a child.

bigkidsmademe · 15/07/2011 14:50

It's Spanish for 'dawn' I think. I like it

Alioco · 15/07/2011 17:06

Alba is a lovely Spanish name, pretty

smokeandglitter · 15/07/2011 18:41

Love it. It means loads of things, in gaelic it's 'scotland', in latin 'white' or 'bright', and other meanings I remember were 'white pearl' and 'bright dawn'. I think it's beautiful and love TTW.

FoxyRevenger · 15/07/2011 21:04

Love love love it Smile

Hevian · 16/07/2011 16:11

Awful. Sounds like a cough lozenge. "Give us a packet of Albas love!"

mathanxiety · 16/07/2011 17:51

Lovely.

lawnimp · 16/07/2011 17:54

don't they make cheap car radios

seeker · 16/07/2011 17:55

For some reason it makes me think of White Supremacists.

Bandwithering · 16/07/2011 18:37

I like it, it means dawn in spanish.

hocuspontas · 16/07/2011 18:54

Yes, it was the cheapest hi-fi manufacturer on the market. You could never take anyone seriously who had any equipment with 'Alba' on it. Shock

JennyPiccolo · 16/07/2011 19:02

i like it.

woowa · 16/07/2011 20:18

love

Hevian · 18/07/2011 09:15

What's the world coming to ? (sound like my mum now)

Bandwithering · 19/07/2011 17:37

It's not that unusual....? certainly not an eye-roller in my book

Macaroona · 19/07/2011 17:40

I love it, it's on my shortlist Smile

Rhubarbgarden · 19/07/2011 17:58

Not keen.

PedigreeChump · 19/07/2011 19:55

I LOVE it! Smile

BertieBasset · 19/07/2011 20:07

Isn't there BBC ALBA in Scotland?
