This chosing the name lark is so difficult. We have just found a name that we both like and agree on an DH goes and discusses it with PIL (not saying the this is the one but one of the list) and they hate it!!

So I've been sent on a mission to find out the MN opinion. What do you think of this one, please?

Honestly, DD2 is in danger of being called the same name as DD1, as we just cannot make our silly minds up...

However, i do love Erica, which is a shortened version.

I like it, unusual and it might get shortened to Freddie which I think is quite cute.

COCKadoodledoo, I really did, with the first one. And DD1 has a girly name and I am honestly not bothered at all now about not having a boy. Just got a thing about boys' names for girls...

Not my but I know a very cute little one with a sister Alexandra and they are 'Alex and Freddie'.

Would assume you were German. Not a bad name but pretty unusual - she'd be Freddie for sure!

Tell your DH to STOP with the discussions, especially with the PIL!! Because I can guarantee you that if this had been THE one, you would have wanted to rip him a new one

It's ok, I would also assume German-ness somewhere along the line. I love Freddie for a girl though, but I love boys' names on girls (Ronnie, Stevie etc)

I like it. And know a lovely 6 year old Frederika. Lovely and not overused.

Frederica doesn't look as German, although I also think it doesn't look as nice.

Funny about the assumptions, no German connection in fact. Am Polish born and bred.

Thank you all for taking the time to comment. I think we are pretty much set on the name. Just exhausted looking TBH. And there's a nice story to tell LO in the future: 'mama had a silly dream that dad and her agreed on this one and once she told dad he said yes (which was scary at first, as mama wasn't even sure if it was a real name...)' :)

I have heard a lot worse on here and think I quite like it. I like Freddie for a girl as do I like Erika.

Personally I don't see why it is your PIL's business, it's your decision and not theirs, they already got to name their child(ren).

the more I think about it the more I like it on reflection, especially if you plan Freddie (I also like boys names for girls like Charlie etc.)

I know Senorita, but it can shake your confidence a bit. It's a very subjective thing, a baby name, and also such a huge responsibility. I never realised...

Honestly there are people out there calling their children by significant numbers. It could be worse!

Also, what about suggesting something you know they will hate MUCH more. Say you are sticking to that, they'll be grateful it's Freddie when she arrives rather than *.

I am called by a 'very' boys name as a NN. My ILs have always hated it and refused to call me by it. Apparently FIL was complaining to his sister and BIL, saying 'I just don't feel comfortable calling her by a boys names' and (lovely) BIL pipes up 'what, like your daughter Sam then?'. I was delighted when I heard. Nevertheless DH's family still call me a name I have never been called before (they wouldn't call me by my long girlie name either just made up their own). Harumph. What's in a name? Nothing, as long as the person likes it and sadly you cannot predict that!

I like it, it's a lovely name. Don't listen to your PIL. It's distinctive, strong, full of history and easily shortened to a variety of nicknames.

I also like the spelling Frederica, which is a bit less harsh, and Federica.

Frida/Freda maybe, too?

I like it, but it WILL get shortened (I wouldn't choose a name that can be shortened).

I really love it. Love the K spelling too. Ignore the PILs and stick with it if you love it.

I think with the K spelling it seems much more 'Central European' (not necessarily German) and less 'we wanted a boy'.

I agree that it's a bit 'oops, we wanted a boy'. I always feel sorry for Nigellas and Thomasinas of this world.

In a funny way, a ponderous name like Frederick becomes very feminine with the elimination of the CK and the addition of the A on the end, imo.

I know one but it is spelled Friederike. Her nn is Friedi which I think is cute.

I think it is awful but then again I don't like masculine names for girls.
