Got this list from wiki, of course!

fluffygal · 15/06/2011 16:22

Its my middle name and my mums name- I hate it. Every Elizabeth I know is called Liz.

MotherPanda · 15/06/2011 16:35

My nanny is Betty, and a friends DD is Betsy. I know a few Beths, and a Libby. There are a lot of Liz's about though.

TeacupTempest · 15/06/2011 18:33

Its not winning me over to be honest.

we have an elizabeth (lizzie).

I always said to DP that if anything happened in labour she was to be called after my grans. I had an easy labour followed by a major pph. Woke up after my GA to meet Elizabeth Ellen. It suits her to a tee. She is just a wee Lizzie, except to my gran who refuses to shorten it as she loved the way Richard Burton said Elizabeth.

but you have to love it if you want to use it.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 15/06/2011 18:42

I have a Lizzie. Lovely name.

babybythesea · 15/06/2011 18:43

We are thinking about it (for our non-existant DD2!)
NN will be Libby. Unless she hates it, in which case she can decide on her own nn from the range on offer!
I love it.

birdofthenorth · 15/06/2011 18:51

I have a Bess from Elizabeth. I was never a giant Elizabeth fan but it's a great name to play with a the nicknames can change as she ages. No regrets.

sparkle12mar08 · 15/06/2011 19:00

Always a strong and classy name, beautiful in full, and highly adaptable with nicknames. A great choice!

NadiaWadia · 15/06/2011 19:05

How can Zoe be short for Elizabeth?

NadiaWadia · 15/06/2011 19:06

Or Alex? Confused

baguettecut · 15/06/2011 19:29

I think it's nicer with an 's' Elisabeth, makes it a bit softer.

squeak2392 · 15/06/2011 20:15

I love it. I'm going to keep it as Elizabeth if I have one.
You could use Libby, Bess, Ellie, Eliza, Liza.

ShoutyHamster · 15/06/2011 21:35

You lose control of the nickname choice pretty early on.

If you don't want a Liz, don't go with it!

To me it's one of the eternal 'all-purpose-middle-name' names like Louise or Jane (child of the 70s!! :) )

basingstoke · 15/06/2011 21:37

Love, love Bess. And Lizzie. And Eliza.

mentalpup · 15/06/2011 22:01

I'm an Elisabeth (with an s) and known as Izzy.

exoticfruits · 15/06/2011 22:03

I think it is a lovely name. You won't have control of a nickname anyway-it will depend what DD wants when older.

MelinaM · 15/06/2011 22:09

Lovely classic nameSmile ...but also no idea how Alex, Bobby, Blake, Blair and Zoe are short form's of Elizabeth[hmm}

pilates · 16/06/2011 11:25

Elizabeth is a great name, but Eliza is even better.

evamummy · 16/06/2011 11:34

Not sure about Blair, Blake of Buffy Hmm, but Elizabeth or Eliza is lovely. Not keen on Lizzy.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 16/06/2011 13:49

Love love love Elizabeth. Classic, timeless, beautiful. Won't date. I think if we have another girl we will use it, with Betty, Lizzy or Buffy as nickname.

Rosa · 16/06/2011 13:59

Finally a sensible name ..Sorry but I can never tell if the OTT/ daft names are trolls or wind ups..
As for the NN it comes with the child it sort of forms ..IMO !!!!

bigbluebump · 16/06/2011 14:59

"Sorry but I can never tell if the OTT/ daft names are trolls or wind ups"

Which names do you mean?

Rosa · 16/06/2011 17:19

some of the more unusual ones ...no the very unusual ones on the what do you think of xxx name ? I often think its a wind up . Not going to say any specific ones as its not my child and not my choice and I am not looking for a bum fight... This name is one I do like.
