Kitty?

I don't like the name Catherine particularly but DH and I both like Kitty - It was my great aunt's name and we were reminded of it yesterday at my grandmother's funeral, so emotions may be taking over.

We have dd Lydia, and are expecting ID twin girls. Our names were Heidi and Alice but now we're thinking about Heidi and Kitty. I've not met any children called Kitty so would like to judge reaction (please be gentle)

Love it but then Im biased because I know a delightful Kitty and an Alice.

This might not make a jot of difference, but Kitty and Lydia were the immature sisters in Pride and Prejudice.

For what it's worth, I love Kitty. Would you put Catherine on the birth certificate?

We had Katya (Kitty) on our list for DD2 but a friend used it a few days before she was born so we went with E liana instead.

Love love love the name Kitty, much nicer than Alice IMHO, could also be a nn for Kathleen if you wanted something more formal, but is nice as a name in its own right.

Also think it's lovely that it's a family name.

Lydia, Heidi and Kitty has a nice ring to it.

No it would be Kitty on her birth certificate. DH did realise earlier today about the Pride and Prejudice link. In a way it's quite apt as Heidi and Alice were from children's books so were looking at a literary theme (unintentionally)

I'm thinking:
Heidi Matilda and Kitty Alice/Alice Kitty

Kitty is a fabulous name. We have a Kitty although she is Katherine on her birth certificate. But Kitty seems to suit our feisty girl. Much better than Alice imho.

Alice is much nicer. I don't understand why Kitty is so popular with Mumsnetters.It's not a nice name,and it makes me think of a burlesque dancer.

Heidi is gorgeous.

I love Alice. Not too keen on Kitty or Heidi (sorry).

I once read of ID twins named Alice and Celia - same letters, different arrangement for totally different sounding names. They also both go nicely with Lydia. hmmm.

I'm not advocating 'matching' names for twins, but that story stuck in my head and your post reminded me of it.

i think the three names go well together, and quite classic. i probably would have a longer name on birth cert, but this can cause problems and not worth it if you don't really like hte 'long' name.

Kitty much nicer than Alice IMHO. Alice always makes me think... who the F... is Alice? Or someone a bit simple.

I know a little Kitty. It's a lovely name, as is Lydia. Sorry don't like Alice or Heidi.

Why put a different/longer name on the birth certificate? (Just curious.)

It is a lovely name (I had a great aunt Kitty who would drink a bottle of guiness everyday and lived until see was 98yrs) but I definitely couldn't call my child it as that is how I often refer to my cat! My husband likes Poppy but I've said no as it is my best friends cat name - these pesky felines.

I think Kitty is lovely but please consider using Catherine/Kathleen or something similar on the birth certificate. Kitty is sweet and girly but she may prefer a more formal sounding name if she goes on to be a highflying lawyer, doctor, head of MI6 etc....

Kitty is cute, but very little-girly and will probably date (seems very 'in' just now). Could you not put Katherine/Catherine on the birth certificate?

Kitty has been around since Victorian times, I had a great grandma with that name. Its always been there. I cant say Ive noticed anymore or less recently. Im surprised with the whole Hello Kitty thing it wasnt more popular.

We have a Kitty, birth certificate and all! It is a great name and she is certainly not cutesy or silly with it. she is feisty and strong! I think people who say it will sound stupid when they're older are wrong - the name has been around for ages and it suits all ages in my opinion. choose what you like and enjoy knowing you called your baby a name you were in love with. x

I once knew a little girl called Kitty and hers was short for Katrina. Or perhaps Caitlin might be a nice name to have on the birth certificate but use Kitty as nickname. I just think that when you give a nickname instead of a full name then there isn't really anything else the child can use if she grows up to not like her name. Whereas if her full name was Katherine she would have the option of Kate, Katie, Kath, Kathy, Kitty, Kat, etc.

I hate, Kate, Kathy etc so that is why I wouldn't use Catherine on birth certificate. If we want to call her Kitty, why do we have to write a completely different name that we don't like on the birth certificate?

You do know that your Kitty will be inundated with hello kitty stuff. She'll also get sick to death of people saying 'hello kitty' then laughing at how clever/funny they are. Heidi on the other hand will get sod all very little with her name on it unless you intend to visit Austria/Germany a lot. Though tbh I'd rather be Heidi than Kitty so she may not be too upset about that in years to come...

Alice and Lydia is what I personally would go for out of those choices
