I know a 10 year old Deborah and she is lovely so I like it by association Smile

I have, however, always wanted to ask her mum if it is a special family name.

Jojay · 26/05/2011 09:40

Awful, sorry

tummytickler · 26/05/2011 10:22

I love it!
But I don't like Debbie, and would never use it for this reason.

valiumbandwitch · 26/05/2011 10:25

Gosh no.

I can't explain it really. I love Libby but I don't like Debbie. I don't fully understand it but no to Deborah/Debbie.

like Jarvis said: 'your name was Deborah. It never suited yer'

give it a generation, I reckon, then all the Debbies will be blossoming once more Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 26/05/2011 10:29

Aw Jack, that's no good to me! I'll have to make sure I'm around to nag DD.

Makes me think of Debbie Does Dallas

Her house was very small, with woodchip on the wall.

DrNortherner · 26/05/2011 12:02

Ahem. My name is Deborah. Known as Debbie.

Don't like it Grin

Also know a teenage Debbie and it's wrong

MarioandLuigi · 26/05/2011 12:03

You were the first girl at School to get breasts, and Martin said that you were the best.

Another Deborah here...hate it and all forms.

SpringHeeledJack · 26/05/2011 13:43

I had a friend called Debbie No Knickers once. She was fuuuuuuun

[wistful]

excellentadventure · 26/05/2011 14:37

Very, very popular name in my generation, but almost always abbreviated to Debbie, so 'Deborah' itself seems quite unusual to my ears. I like it. And I have met a couple of people who always go by the full name, so it is possible to avoid the Debbie diminutive.

I'm not too keen on Debbie (could live with it) but love Deborah.

So, to re-cap that's 5-7 against, one reminiscence and a few song quotes! Hmm.... :o

It's a positive strong name with good associations, Deborah being an Old Testament prophetess and judge. It's likely to be quite an unusual choice these days and would be a nice change from all the Isabellas and Florences.

DrNortherner · 26/05/2011 17:29

The people who I meet who insist on being called Deborah are always a tad uptight I think Grin

Janoschi · 26/05/2011 17:36

My DD's middle name is Deborah, after both grandmothers. I really like it - it suits her and isn't gimmicky, frilly or posh. One of her grans is a Debby, the other was known as Dee. 6-7 against....!

madwomanintheattic · 26/05/2011 17:40

lol drn, another one here. dh and his entire family call me debs. (i don't think i've ever met anyone who uses deborah though...)

it drives me mad.

having lived with it for 40 blardy years and heard it used in the same manner as shaz and trace, i long for a re-birth. it is a strong classical name, but just got tied up in an interesting era, i think.

do it, and start a wave of new age deborahs.

MelinaM · 26/05/2011 17:48

I had to watch them trying to get you undressed.

We were friends but that was as far as it went.

...on a more serious note I'm not a fan of Deborah, Deb, Debbie etc, quite a dated name I feel.
