The people who I meet who insist on being called Deborah are always a tad uptight I think

One of the ones I know is 85 and not a bit uptight :)

And I don't think it has dated, in fact, despite its popularity throughout the 60s and 70s, simply because so few people use the name in its full form.

That's my theory, you hear very few Deborah's that aren't Debbies, so if I could push for a Deborah...but then how do you stop people using a nn you don't want, hell, even I'd probably say Debbie!

Ignore the stray apostrophe, don't know who put that there...

I was at school with three Deborahs who were all great, nice girls.not quite as many as the 15 Sharrons and 15 traceys.but not too bad a name ,all are known as Deb .

DrNortherner · 26/05/2011 21:34

Although I don't like my name, I do think that Deb/Debbie/Debs is a very friendly name. Smile

Reminds me of a Yankee I met in California, who insisted on being called "De - BO - ra"

readysalted · 27/05/2011 20:01

'you look like a zebra'

It is a bit 70s but I rather like it.

zozzle · 27/05/2011 23:12

Not bad in its full form - biblical prophetess in OT.

mynameisplonker · 28/05/2011 17:11

Would you pn it
Deb-orr-a
or
Deb-ra

I don't like the former but have a great friend (sassy, beautiful and loyal) who is Debra, so I love that!

Youcantaffordme · 28/05/2011 17:18

It's pronounced Deb -uh- ra. Or, if said quickly, Debra - but that spelling is very naff.
