Totally and utterly....a friend of mine called her a son Bailey and another one Morgan...we wondered if that's what she'd been drunk on when she conceived

nethunsreject · 20/05/2011 09:44

imo, yes. sorry. Blush

IHeartKingThistle · 20/05/2011 09:45

I really like it. I can see how it has the potential to seem 'chavvy' IYSWIM but I personally don't think it is. Could be something to do with the fact that I am teaching a lovely one at the moment who writes stories in his spare time...Smile

Cattleprod · 20/05/2011 09:45

It is a bit, yes, although I've only met one and his mum wasn't chavvy at all. I was a bit surprised she chose the name.

screamingskull · 20/05/2011 09:46

I suppose it is a bit, but really if you like it what does it matter?

MollysChamber · 20/05/2011 09:47

Honestly? Yes. Sorry.

Bucharest · 20/05/2011 09:48

Yes.

OppositeOfBlooming · 20/05/2011 09:48

It just slots into that American surname type name category. It's quite a marmite category tbh. See also Carter, Tyler, Carson, Mason, Morgan etc.

I don't like them but it's not my baby and not my choice.

Party of Five I liked though...

52Girls · 20/05/2011 09:49

Very.

DiscoDaisy · 20/05/2011 09:49

Where I live all the children called Bailey are girls.

bumpatibump · 20/05/2011 10:03

It is one of our shortlisted names but just watched Supernanny and there was some chavvy mum with a son called Bailey (who played video games all day and night!)

Bailey is totally chavvy in my neck of the woods....agree with Disco that now it seems to be being used for girls whereas 10 years ago it was boys only. Either way, it's only used by the chavs.

oohlaalaa · 20/05/2011 10:22

I know a very adorable little boy called Bailey, who loves golf and lego. His parents are not chavs at all, as in they both have jobs (dad is a plumber, mums a secretary), and a mortgage, but the parents do have slightly chavtastic taste in their tattoos and clothes etc. They have commented that their taste in names - they love the boys names Harvey and Bailey are considered by some as chavvy.

I dont think it is a chavtastic name, but for me, it is a dogs name (I used to have a dog called Bailey). I find other names more chavvy, if you love it, go for it.

To me chavtastic boys names are the really silly ones like - Brooklyn, Junior, Billy-Rae, Billy-Jay, Chayse, Cruz.

CherryDrops · 20/05/2011 11:36

Nice name for a puppy, a bit chavvy on a child though I'm afraid.

Tuggy · 20/05/2011 11:40

I'm sorry but yes it really is chavvy you can't get away from the fact :(

Prime Minister Bailey? Dr Bailey? No I don't think so...

EightiesChick · 20/05/2011 11:42

I know someone whose dog is called Bailey. It wasn't a nice dog either, very aggressive. Draw what conclusions you like from that.

ShoutyHamster · 20/05/2011 11:42

It's made up and modern, so in that sense, yes!

Each to their own, but to me it just sounds like a puppy. Or a sickly drink :)

DrMuffy · 20/05/2011 11:47

Where I live, all the Baileys are either girls or dogs.

daisybear · 20/05/2011 12:04

yes!!

DialMforMummy · 20/05/2011 13:10

yes 100%

exexpat · 20/05/2011 13:14

The only Baileys I know are staffies. Very sweet dogs, but still...

GwendolineMaryLacey · 20/05/2011 13:18

Yup.

neighbourhoodwitch · 20/05/2011 13:36

Yes, it is chavvy, sorry.
