Honestly....

The only Bailey I know is a 7yo boy.
His mother is a snob -- honestly! She turns her nose up at all kinds of things (like our local schools, which my DC attend). No tattoos or "chav" wardrobe style at all.

lljkk - not sure that I like describing names as chavvy.

I know an absolutely not chavvy mother, who's son is called Mason, which I have heard described as chavvy on mumsnet.

I know people of my age group, with brilliant careers, and names that have been described as chavvy for their era. However these names, which include Haylie, Sharon, Dannielle, Charlene, Kayleigh, Lee, Darren, Ainsley - are not silly, such as Chardonay, Princess or Junior. I think its the silly names, which can prevent a job interview (re CV).

WorzselMaamage · 20/05/2011 14:02

Completely.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 20/05/2011 14:06

Not chavistic but alcoholic, next one can be jack daniel, and the girl vodka Grin.

lljkk · 20/05/2011 15:56

I hate the chav label myself, all it means is "bad taste". No two people have the same definition of "chav". Why can't people just say "in bad taste" instead? Confused

SilkStalkings · 20/05/2011 16:04

Not necessarily chavvy but makes me think the mum spends Saturday evenings watching Dancing on Ice and simultaneously posting about it on Facebook. This is obviously a huge percentage of the population so maybe I am just snobbish because those mums bore the pants off me.

pilates · 20/05/2011 16:20

Yes

Tolalola · 20/05/2011 16:25

Erm...yes. Sorry.

jenniferturkington · 20/05/2011 16:27

Yes it is I think, but I do quite like it. Get a pet.

scarlettsmummy2 · 20/05/2011 16:30

I think it is a bit tacky to be honest.

WeLoveHimSo · 20/05/2011 16:32

Yes.

And when he's grown up people will call him Old Bailey

birdofthenorth · 20/05/2011 16:58

I love it but yes, a teeny bit chav these days, & used by a lot of girls. But I still like it. I quite like just Bay for a boy too, which MNers always say is horsey!

Pussinflatboots · 20/05/2011 17:49

Yes.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 20/05/2011 18:30

Kirsty Allsop's DS is Bailey, I think - so take from that what you will!!! There aren't any Bailey's round here. I quite like it, and do really like Bay. It's not in the same league as Tyler, Hayden, Kai, Jaiden by any stretch.

bubaluchy · 20/05/2011 19:42

I think it depends on how you are Im sure itwill be a lovely name

Deesus · 20/05/2011 19:44

I quite like it actually. Knew a lad at school called Bailey - nice boy and not chavvy in the slightest!

ChardonnayGirl2 · 20/05/2011 19:49

Yes, I know brothers called Bailey and Bradley Biscuit

DriverDan · 20/05/2011 20:35

I know a family with a Bailey. Amongst the same family are a Brittany, Jaxson and Leyton.

shortround · 20/05/2011 20:45

mm ... chav!
i go with the prof, doctor, lord (lol) etc.

LynetteScavo · 20/05/2011 21:08

Kirsty Allsopp has Bay Atlas and Oscar Hercules.

Definitely no Bailey!

emmanumber3 · 20/05/2011 21:43

DrMuffy I hope not both Blush.

MelinaM · 20/05/2011 21:44

^Love Bay AtlasSmile

Absolutely abhor Bailey, surnamey, and very American in sound ...so yes, utterly chavtasticGrin

emmanumber3 · 20/05/2011 21:46

Yes, sorry, Bailey is chavvy. Do you like Bay? Much less chavvy IMO.
