DD1 Agatha, DD2?

MamaLaMoo · 19/05/2011 09:17

I had to compromise considerably for DD1's name although I do really like Agatha, I had wanted

Ariadne
Seraphina
Persephone etc

So having curtailed my gorgeous name ambitions I have come up with

Eloise
Ingrid
Astrid
Audrey
Ioanthe or Isolde (actually pushing the limits of acceptable to DH)

and bizarrely inspired by Dr Who on Saturday - Idris.

DH has Ruth, that's it. Everything else I suggest he pauses for just long enough to convey a very middle class, English form of disapproval and says something like "hmmm, it's not that bad..." he is driving me insane!

Anyone got other unusual names that would sound OK with Agatha?

Last time we had an agreed list of names sorted the day before I went into labour because that was the only time in 9 whole months he would sit down and look through the name book!

I like Idris a lot Grin sounds really nice with Agatha too

Ruth is awful IMO.

FYI, DH didn't like any of my names, DD1 and DD2 are still called what I thought they would be called, only concession is DD2 mn. I wanted Kari I let him have Nadia instead (still not sure I like it). Thinking about it I really regret it, Kari fits DD2 perfectly.... Confused.

Do you like Violet? It just popped into my head after seeing Seraphina as Jennifer Garner's DDs are Seraphina and Violet.

pinkgirlythoughts · 19/05/2011 10:51

umm, Idris is a boys' name. I wouldn't call your daughter that Confused.

Out of your names, Eloise and Ingrid would be nice sibling names for Agatha. I also like Violet. How about Sylvie, Flora, Heidi?

CandiceMariePratt · 19/05/2011 10:55

Agatha is my favourite name, how about Ottilie, Dulcie, Dorothy, Maude, Meredith, Romilly, Miriam or Violet

Converse · 19/05/2011 11:05

I like Eloise and Isolde.

How about Xanthe, Elodie, Serena?

MelinaM · 19/05/2011 11:14

Love Ariadne, Seraphina, Ingrid and AudreySmile Don't mind the name Ruth, but it's a smidge plain for me,

Artemis
Cosima
Honor
Jemima
Orithyia
Paloma
Pandora
Perdita
Tabitha
Safina

MamaLaMoo · 19/05/2011 11:27

Thanks for your suggestions, had considered Violet, was on a list but DH rejected all names to do with flowers Hmm. Maybe I can persuade him otherwise.

Dorothy and Miriam had come up as nice names but we have a neighbour called Dot and a close friend called Miriam.

Elodie is nice, love Artemis but suspect that would be too freaky for other half.

Liesle

MamaLaMoo · 19/05/2011 11:31

Just had a look online and found Idris as a name Welsh and Arabic origin which can be used for boys or girls.

Also just found it listed as a Hindu girls name.

Very multicultural!

Personally I wouldn't have another name starting with A, since you already have an Agatha, but it does makes school name tapes easier! Smile

Really love Seraphina. Dislike Ruth...

What about....Delilah, Martha, Darcey, Tabitha, Ursala and Esther??

Violet, Paloma and Cosima are all very pretty too! Grin

hellojude · 19/05/2011 11:53

Forgot to add Petra?

ShowOfHands · 19/05/2011 11:57

Audrey popped into my head when I saw your title... I LOVE Agatha.

Josephine (Sephie and Posy are lovely nicknames)
Aphra
Mirabel
Hester
Hephzibah
Jessamy
Aurora (Rorie)

freesias · 19/05/2011 12:42

clara
martha
greta
margaret

MamaLaMoo · 19/05/2011 19:30

Spooky how names you are coming up with I have thought of too! Mirabel, Esther (friend called this), Aurora.

Have taught Tabitha, Darcey and Martha's - trying to steer clear of names which remind me of past students hence the rather unusual suggestions.

Leisle pronounced Lie-zul?? Lovely and hadn't found it in one of my name books, DH likes the more Germanic names. I will run it past him. Ooooo, it is exciting to find a possible name I hadn't thought of, I knew it would be a good idea asking MNers Smile thank you all.

I like Mabel, and think it sounds nice with Agatha...?

freesias · 19/05/2011 20:21

Priscilla love this along with Agatha but dh didn't agree unfortunately

emmanumber3 · 19/05/2011 21:17

Idris is ginger beer to me - sorry Blush.

How about something like Rosemary? It's unusual nowadays but may be traditional enough to appeal to your DH?

ShoutyHamster · 21/05/2011 09:04

Idris in Wales is never, never, never used as a girl's name!!

Don't believe everything you read online...

Seriously, it would be like calling your daughter Rodney.

Josephine could be a goer - one you can get past your H but then have Posy for a nn, which is lovely.

Also Honor, Clara, Helena?

Oh go with Cordelia. Thats a lovely name and Agatha and Cordelia sound really good.

pilates · 21/05/2011 10:06

I think Matilda and Emmeline would sound nice with Agatha.

Please not Audrey - not a nice name for a young girl or any age come to think of it.

Valinor · 21/05/2011 10:48

Eloise - Prefer Louisa with Agatha
Ingrid - Nice but quite harsh imo
Astrid - Not another A name
Audrey - As Astrid
Ioanthe or Isolde - Seen this cropping up a lot on name lists - might not be as unusual as you think. Not sure how well they work with Agatha either.

How about:

Agatha and Eleanora
Agatha and Greta
Agatha and Cecily
Agatha and Estella
Agatha and Imelda
Agatha and Eudora
Agatha and Matilda
Agatha and Cordelia
Agatha and Florence
Agatha and Minerva
Agatha and Leonora
Agatha and Geneva
Agatha and Odessa
Agatha and Dorothea
Agatha and Beatrix
Agatha and Rosamond
Agatha and Rowena
Agatha and Sylvia
Agatha and Willa
Agatha and Penelope
Agatha and Verity

bambiandthumper · 22/05/2011 21:23

Agatha and Ottilie
Agatha and Panodora
Agatha and Perdita
Agatha and Isadora
Agatha and Oriel

Camerondiazepam · 22/05/2011 22:40

Another vote for Romilly here, too alliterative for my family but would love to have used it for one of my DDs otherwise.

Camerondiazepam · 22/05/2011 22:42

By the way am a bit baffled that you have a DD called Honor but don't like names like Faith, Hope etc in case DD doesn't live up? Just interested, like...
