DD1 Agatha, DD2?

I had to compromise considerably for DD1's name although I do really like Agatha, I had wanted

Ariadne
Seraphina
Persephone etc

So having curtailed my gorgeous name ambitions I have come up with

Eloise
Ingrid
Astrid
Audrey
Ioanthe or Isolde (actually pushing the limits of acceptable to DH)

and bizarrely inspired by Dr Who on Saturday - Idris.

DH has Ruth, that's it. Everything else I suggest he pauses for just long enough to convey a very middle class, English form of disapproval and says something like "hmmm, it's not that bad..." he is driving me insane!

Anyone got other unusual names that would sound OK with Agatha?

Last time we had an agreed list of names sorted the day before I went into labour because that was the only time in 9 whole months he would sit down and look through the name book!

Seraphina is my fave but Liesle (sp) sounds perfect with Agatha -I love it

I love Astrid and Audrey from your suggestions.

I also love Ruth. It would go with the TH sound of Agatha. Liesel would be gorgeous though, and I love Cosima, already mentioned.

How about
Dagmar
Frieda
Xanthe as an alternative to Ioanthe
Hilda

mathanxiety · 25/05/2011 20:20

Or Anneliese?

NotaMopsa · 25/05/2011 20:21

Liesle rhmes with weasel! No No No.

The name Bridget spung to mind. Works with the G and T.

Only name I can think of nat mentioned of the same ilk is Genevieve.

What about Helena? (Same rhythm)?

kangers · 25/05/2011 23:09

not not 'nat'

EduStudent · 25/05/2011 23:25

Viola? Like Violet, but less flowery.

Leonora?
Rosalind?
Emmeline?

mathanxiety · 26/05/2011 00:36

Beulah or Dinah would go with Agatha. Both unusual but classic names, like Agatha (and Ruth).

I like Bridget too.

EduStudent · 26/05/2011 00:51

Hermione? Bit too Harry Potter?

tiptoptally · 26/05/2011 01:24

I love Astrid and Eloise.

Also love Liesl. Or what about Lorelei or Lesia (pronounced Lesha).

Or Madeleine, Sarah, Elin, Marjorie or Nancy.

The name which seems to me to go most with Agatha is Matilda.

DH rejected all names to do with flowers

What is with this? Mine did the same thing. He said "There are short steps from Rose and Violet to Pansy to Apple and inevitably to ?No. 18 bus shelter?.". Okay, dude, whatever.

Anyway, your taste and mine coincide quite a bit, so here is my longlist (now whittled by the aforementioned DH) in case it helps.

Agnes
Anne
Audrey
Briony
Constance
Esme
Felicity
Flora
Florence
Frances
Helena
Isolde
Lucy
Olive
Ophelia
Rosamund
Tabitha
Violet
Winifred

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 26/05/2011 01:50

Oh, and DD1 is Edith.

fairieswearboots · 26/05/2011 22:50
