.. I have a complicated situation, being foreign but DH is English/Irish, I was hoping I would be having a girl but it is a little boy so really struggling with boys names, I need something both his family and mine will have no difficulty saying. I've been through loads of books and the only name which popped out at me was Elliot.. but whenever I mention it to people I get a luke-warm reaction.. Its really growing on me, but am I the only one?

travellingwilbury · 11/05/2011 18:37

I like it too , not used a lot but a really lovely name .

I only know one Elliot and he rather smashing .

newmumtb · 11/05/2011 18:44

Thanks so much for your lovely comments, now I only have to convince DH whose only choice is Logan :) which is never going to happen. I might let him use it as a middle name instead. I wonder sometimes if it was better to keep the name to myself and just tell people afterwards, I am sure once it is attached to a cute baby any name would do :).Its such a difficult decision and then once other people's preferences get involved it makes it even harder to choose.

Don't tell people!

You'd get a luke warm reaction from me, but there is nothing wrong with it, and he's likely to be the only one in his class as it's not mega popular. Smile

LucretiaInShadows · 11/05/2011 18:49

Elliot Logan sounds fine. I'm pretty judgy, but it doesn't ring any alarm bells over here.

Prinpo · 11/05/2011 18:52

I agree about not telling people. I was quite unsure about our choice for DD3, due in July, so posted on here and asked a few friends whose taste I trust. The feedback was good, which has made up my mind, but I won't be telling many people before she's born in case I get negative reactions.

FWIW, I know 4 Elliots, although I think that's a blip as I don't think it's an overused name. It works really well for all of them.

QOD · 11/05/2011 18:55

Love it, was my boy name (before my niece nicked it! - and we had a girl anyway....)

wildcatsrock · 11/05/2011 18:56

I quite like Elliot, not so much Logan but there is nothing wrong with it its just not my taste.
Don't tell people the names in advance, as you say it will be better just to present the name attached to the baby then they cant really say anything. aslong as you and dh are happy with it, no need to ask others opinions in advance as there will always be someone with a negative view to add

CocktailQueen · 11/05/2011 19:15

I love it. :)

wigglesrock · 11/05/2011 19:33

I like Elliot, don't like Logan at all, I'll be honest I would tell people in advance about the name. People who matter are going to love the baby no matter what the name is but the last thing you need having just had a baby is a slight hesitation, or their face having a slight puzzled expression before they tell you how much they like it Grin

daisybear · 11/05/2011 19:57

elliot is a lovely name, much better than logan as a first name imo.
elliot logan sounds good
i repeat whats already been said about don't tell people your names until he's born...... no one ever pulls a face when its a childs name but for some reason people think its ok to pass judgment before they are born.

Raahh · 11/05/2011 20:08

Elliot is ds's name- was the only name ever liked, too. Is a fab name.Grin

newmumtb · 11/05/2011 20:18

I feel so much better now, especially since it's already on my head and I find I compare all other names to this. Fed up with baby name books, unless it just doesn't suit when he's born I'm sticking to Elliot. Thane so much on all your input !!!

real cute, love it, good luck :)

rachel234 · 11/05/2011 21:52

I'm not keen on Elliot, especially the nicknames, Ell or Ellie. But the main thing is that YOU and your dh love then name.

biological · 11/05/2011 22:10

brilliant name - stick with it

cece · 11/05/2011 22:17

I know there is nothing wrong with this name as such but I'm just not keen. Not sure why though - maybe too 'modern' sounding for my taste?
