Haven't heard his for a long time. What do you think of it? is it due a revival like most other old fashioned names.

Lovely, a classic name and underused - due a revival :)

freesias · 04/05/2011 11:38

in theory lovely .

though when i hear it i can only think mary ,mary quite contrary which really ruins it for me .
sorry

oohlaalaa · 04/05/2011 12:05

love the name.

cumbria81 · 04/05/2011 12:10

I love it but have a suspicion it's going to get very popular....

valiumbandwitch · 04/05/2011 12:21

Yeah, I reckon wills and kate might use it.

FoofffyShmoofffer · 04/05/2011 12:25

I love it, it's my DDs middle name. Much forgotten name.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 04/05/2011 13:29

I really don't like it. DHs family are catholic. I had a really hard time from MiL because Mary didn't feature in DDs names. It quite put me off.

mamma2boyz · 04/05/2011 16:14

I love it, know a gorgeous 3yo Mary who carries it off beautifully...would use it for no 3 if I didnt know her, Go for it x

bubbles12 · 04/05/2011 17:51

Lovely.

Sacharissa · 04/05/2011 17:54

I really like it.

pjani · 04/05/2011 17:58

Bit boring but fine.

Greenwing · 04/05/2011 19:11

One of the best names every IMO.
I wish I could have used it myself (but only had DSs).

pointydog · 04/05/2011 19:25

Really like it.

wigglesrock · 04/05/2011 20:00

Dd1s middle name, - had dd3 baptised last week and one of the other babies was called Mary - absolutely gorgeous, everyone commented on it.

purplehorse · 04/05/2011 20:09

I really like it and think it will make a come back also so get in there and be one of the first!

pinkgirlythoughts · 04/05/2011 20:21

I have an Isobel Mary in my class. My sister (a nursery nurse) has a Mary in her group, and we're considering Annabelle Mary if this little one is a girl. I really like it, and like that it's a classic, but not overused.

spidookly · 04/05/2011 20:24

No no no

Mary is the name of every second woman in her 50s.

It's ugly and overused and has horrible religious associations.

valiumbandwitch · 04/05/2011 20:30

WEll, in Ireland yes, but I can understand why it seems a bit fresher in the uk.

My mum's generation would have a lot of Marys though, and Maries, and Mauras and Maureens. In fact, a woman of that age might say 'im going out for lunch with Marie, Maura, Mary B, Mary O and Maureen now'

Spidookly, Theresa and Josephine are the names that will never sound fresh to me. iykwim.

wigglesrock · 04/05/2011 20:44

Yup valium I'm in NI and dd1s middle name is Mary because its both of her grandmothers name, although neither of them are actually called Mary in their day to day lives Grin

I like it, now Bernadette on the other hand

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 04/05/2011 20:47

Would have properly considered it for DC4 only we have a Joseph (and DC4 was a boy anyway.)

MelinaM · 04/05/2011 20:51

Not a fan of religious names, and Mary is a tad dull!

eurycantha · 04/05/2011 20:54

I know three under one year old Marys ,I like it,as already said as long as you don`t have a Joseph.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 04/05/2011 20:58

I like it. DD's middle name!

Suncottage · 04/05/2011 21:02

I think it is going to be this seasons equivalent to Megan or Ellie. I love it but I think it is going to get popular.

spidookly · 04/05/2011 21:34

Oh I agree with you about Theresa - yuck

Josephine I like though.

I can't believe Mary's coming back. It is the worst name ever. Except for Majella, but at least that has the virtue of being somewhat unusual.

Maaaaaaaary

Drab, hickey, unimaginative
