Names you'd have loved, but couldn't use!

Just curious, are there baby names you'd have loved to use, but couldn't? For whatever reason!

My examples: my first child is a boy, and I loved the names Dylan, James, Tyler, or Max. We ended up not using any of them for various reasons. Dylan, my dh just hated. James, is my dh's best mate and my dh didn't want him getting a big head [confussed], Tyler, my dh said was 'chavvy', and Max didn't work with dh's surname (Chipps)- dh thought the boy would souns like a washed up superhero!

My ds ended up named Edward after dh's grandfather, which took some getting used to for me but I love it now :)

my second child (dd) is a girl. I loved Freya, Willow, Ruby, Isabella, Sophie, Leah, Imogen and Paige. Dh hated most of them, and said that Willow just made him think of the dwarf from the film! :o And of course, Freya Chipps...? just doesn't sound good!

TeddyMcardle · 28/04/2011 21:38

Yeah everyone said BASIL a la Faulty Towers, still harbour a resentment to John Cleese about that [cangry]

Luke -DH vetoed it because he thought of Luke Skywalker- which I thought made it all the cooler! Gabriel - DH vetoed it for being too feminine. Tom - DH vetoed it as it's his Dad's name and he didn't want his son to have that name - Daniel & Alexander - SIL got there first.

Keira - I binned it as I'd loved it for a decade but it is too popular now - 4 in DD's year now. Carly - DH vetoed it. Erin - same as Keira.

firsttimemama · 28/04/2011 21:43

And Matthew with DH as vetoed it in a completely non-PC way by saying it was "Gay" - I have no clue why???

aStarInStrangeways · 28/04/2011 21:54

Gabriel - DH inexplicably felt that the child would be constantly mocked with 'GAY-briel' at school. None of the Gabriels I've ever known have complained of this!

Edmund - ex's name.

May, Violet - sound ridiculous with my surname.

Marnie - sounds too much like another family surname.

chirpchirp · 29/04/2011 23:42

Stanley, Henry and Albert - all too old fashioned
Winston - Surname starts with W and DH thought it was too much
Sasha, Annie, Zoe - No girls (yet)

Also Thomas. This was the first name I ever PROPERLY considered naming my future child (from the age of 10-15), but I've since had an experience with a 'friend' called Thomas, and I don't think I'll ever get over how much I want him to crawl away and die in the bushes somewhere, so I think that's out.

Rosie has been DH's favourite girl name forever, and I love Madeline. We were expecting and had a month or two to go to due date. BiL went and bought two puppies and names them Rosie and Madeline [Maddie] not knowing that they were on our shortlist. We were a little grr about this, he said why can't we still name DD either of those names.... Hmm didn't want DD growing up thinking she'd been named after BiL's dogs... as would happen and his GF is VERY snobby and would rub it in to her at every chance.
