What do you think of the name Norman for a boy? My brother laughed when I mentioned it.

What do you think?

Plonkerr · 11/04/2011 00:12

Honestly?

Just No.

Norman is a 50 odd year old jovial balding fat man.

Janoschi · 11/04/2011 00:13

I love it. My Grandad was Norman.

NormanTheForeman · 11/04/2011 00:18

I think it is the best name in the world. Not that I am biased or anything.

It's a great name! Fab!

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 11/04/2011 00:21

Please no! The only Norman I know is 75 years old and the most grumpy, cantankerous (sp) sod you will ever meet. Please don't inflict that horrid moniker on an innocent.

SolarPanel · 11/04/2011 00:38

Don't like it, sorry.

blackeyeddog · 11/04/2011 00:38

Norman Wisdom anyone? Go for it!

IWouldNotCouldNotWithAGoat · 11/04/2011 04:24

Close your eyes and imagine the responses people are going to give you when you tell them you have just named your baby Norman.

Then go back to the drawing board. Seriously, it's that bad.

lljkk · 11/04/2011 04:53

If you love it I think go for it, OP. He will make it his own.
Strong family name for us, but there were other names we liked better.

booandbump · 11/04/2011 06:54

Don't like it at all sorry. Hmm

Avantia · 11/04/2011 07:05

Sorry , agree with your brother .

Have a rethink .

chimchar · 11/04/2011 07:10

my ds nickname is norman....after norman price, the naughty boy on fireman sam.

also, i would HAVE to shorten it to normski.....

does that alter your opinion? Grin

Lollypolly · 11/04/2011 07:12

Sorry, when I was growing up, "Norman" was an insult....

Buda · 11/04/2011 07:40

Norman No Mates.

ChocolatewithRosie · 11/04/2011 07:52

Norman is that annoying child in Fireman Sam isn't he? Norrrrrrmaaaaaan

Also he will be Norm and Normy. Not pretty.

Easterfeaster · 11/04/2011 08:03

I had two in my class in the seventies. Why did it go out of fashion?
I blame it on Norman Lamont

Cattleprod · 11/04/2011 08:29

He's the asbo kid from Fireman Sam. Or a very old, very geeky man who collects stamps and has a trainset in his attic.

Imagine your DS as a cool teenager trying to chat up a pretty girl - 'Hi, I'm Norman'. Bet you wouldn't see her for dust!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/04/2011 08:36

No. Just that. No.
Consider Duncan or Adrian.

Bubbaluv · 11/04/2011 08:56

Here in Aus there used to be an ad campaign (community health thing) to get people to do more exercise. There was a fit active woman trying to encourage her fat, lazy husband to get up off the sofa.
The ad company chose the name Norm for the fat man. I can imagine the ad execs sitting around trying to decide what name best conjures up their character and result was...

meditrina · 11/04/2011 09:03

Norman Stanley Fletcher?

ElsieR · 11/04/2011 09:25

Thinking Norman Bates. Psycho shower scene. No.

Margles · 11/04/2011 09:55

kreecher - since I have a friend with sons called Adrian and Duncan, I thought that you must be the same - but you can't be.

Norman is OK as a name, no worse that all the Alfie's, Archie's etc. etc. which seemed horribly old-fashioned until little tots started sporting the names.

muminthemiddle · 11/04/2011 10:06

I don't really like it tbh.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/04/2011 10:09

Margles what excellent taste your friend has. It isn't me, I have one DD.

tallulah · 11/04/2011 10:13

You are not serious?

Norman is a word we use for someone who is a bit of a plank.

Please don't do it.

MamaLazarou · 11/04/2011 11:22

It's a great name, and would have been on my shortlist if it didn't sound so wrong with our surname.
