So we couldnt decide on a name before baby arrived and just hoped a name came to us when we saw him but it didnt.

Ive had a look at baby name meanings for some inspiration and found Ethan, which means strong, firm and long lived. I like this because he has been unbelieveably strong from day one.

I just cant find it in me to commit to it 100% (the same as with every other name we have thought of). If we choose it he will be Ethan David.

Any thoughts or suggestions most welcome :)

Ethan is a fantastic name. Your child will grow into his name whichever name you choose. I only know of one Ethan where I live.

LynetteScavo · 03/04/2011 19:00

Ethan & David go very well together.

I once knew a French boy called Ethan-David.

Congratulations. Smile

I like Bruce. Sounds like a strong name to me.

If you're looking for strong-meaning names, Gideon is also a possibility.

Thanks for your help and suggestions everyone, just wish I could be 100% sure about a name before deciding as I did with DS1 but that was the problem, we used our 2 'good' names on him so this is why we are struggling now! :)

I like Ethan David very much, though Ethan is very popular, I think.

Peter (not popular at all these days) is a good 'strong' name (means 'rock').

Congratulations.

Finessa · 03/04/2011 23:08

Congratulations :)

I think if Ethan David is what you're thinking, and nothing else is jumping out at you, you should go with your instinct.

There seem to be loads of boys' names that mean strong though.

What's your DS1s name? Does Ethan go with it?

growing3rdbump · 04/04/2011 12:46

I like Ethan David.
We have an Ethan Alexander and his name suits him perfectly.

flopsy1974 · 04/04/2011 15:15

Ethan is a lovely name. it may be quite popular (I only know 1 by the way) but good names become popular for a reason.
Ethan David sounds great.

justbeingmummy · 04/04/2011 15:35

ahh thanks everyone I do really like it and it does go with DS1. The only problem with it I can see is that my DP is Nathan so its a bit similar sounding and could get confusing in the future when calling one of them etc...

Would this put you off? x

David Ethan?

ethan and Nathan might be a bit similar if you are saying them together.

growing3rdbump · 04/04/2011 16:45

Ah, perhaps a bit similar. I only say this as there have been a couple of times when people have accidently called my Ethan 'Nathan'...

jellybeans · 04/04/2011 16:54

Ethan is great.

lalabaloo · 04/04/2011 18:41

I love the name Ethan! Unfortunately my DH isn't convinced :(

SolarPanel · 04/04/2011 19:53

Ethan and Nathan are very similar. Personally I wouldn't use both.

justbeingmummy · 04/04/2011 22:43

Oh dear Im no nearer a decision Hmm
Everyone is on our case about it and im getting a bit stressed out, im feeling too tired to make such a big decision and I feel guilty because I feel he should have a name by now but im worried that we will never be sure and then end up regretting it.

Anyone else been in the same situation?

UndiscoveredApprentice · 04/04/2011 22:45

ethan is gorgeous, but a wee bit too close to Nathan I feel.

I think Joshua goes well with Nathan, so does Jacob, and Reuben is another firm favourite of mine. All of them would suit David as a middle name.

Lonnie · 04/04/2011 22:50

I like Ethan David

CaptainNancy · 04/04/2011 22:54

Evan?

I agree 2 'th' sounds is awkward...

PurveyorOfBologna · 04/04/2011 22:55

Evan is similar. I like that (like Ethan too)

PurveyorOfBologna · 04/04/2011 22:55

justbeingmummy · 04/04/2011 22:59

Plus DC1 is Alfie so to 'th' and a 'f' is a bit too much I feel its gonna get a bit confusing. I really dont know what we are going to do.....im slighty starting to panic!
