Which perfectly nice names do you really dislike for no reason you can put your finger on?

I don't mean names that you think are:

'posh' (Fenella)
'chavvy' (Kayden)
'princessey' (Annabelle)
'hypheney' (Ellie-Mae)
'illiterate' (Mykal)
'ubiquitous' (Ruby)
'celeby' (Britney)
and so forth.

I mean names which for absolutely no reason you can put your finger on, you really really dislike. They don't come with associations or baggage, you just don't like it.

The test is, if you can say: "I don't like it because...(it reminds me of a horrible kid in primary school/it's really dated/ I know fifteen of them)" then it doesn't count. There has to be absolutely no justifiable (or unjustifiable) reason for your dislike of it.

For me: Hazel.

I just think it's really a horrid name.

felicity loathe it . even though i can see it has a lovely meaning , is girly but not frilly , suits a baby and an adult and everyone we've mentioned it too in rl loves it . yet i still despise it. hate the nn flick , when i hear it it sounds like fleacity and when i see it written down i see facility . unfortunately it is the only girls name dh claims to love or even like .

Not sure if I'm allowed these because I have reasons, but Ella, Ellie, Evie (Because I muddle them up) and things with confusing unisex forms like Leslie, Robyn, Charlie/Charlotte and Christine/Christopher.
Strangely I'm quite happy with Eva and Harriet (but that may be because she doesn't shorten it to Harry)
Finn etc because I just can't help thinking of a nice big plate of fish and chips.
I like Hazel

Cattleprod · 02/04/2011 20:55

Harriet and James.

I think I'm probably the only person on Mumsnet who hates the name James. Everyone on the name threads seems to love it.

notanumber · 02/04/2011 20:55

Ruth. It is ugly. I can't explain why it is ugly, but it is most definitely ugly.
