Edgar. It's great. Too many Oscars just now.

MelinaM · 02/04/2011 01:14

Edgar Henry is just lovely! There are definitely far too many Oscar's at the mo! x

MardyBra · 02/04/2011 01:29

I like Oscar better mainly because my first boyfriend used to call his penis Edgar. Sorry if tmi.

nooka · 02/04/2011 05:40

I prefer Edgar as it's a bit more unusual. I would expect Ed or an Eddie on the nn front. I don't think that Oscar has any obvious nns

catinboots · 02/04/2011 05:46

Edgar. It's lovely. Nn Ed or Eddie.

Oscar is a dog. Or a horse.

Hedwig3 · 02/04/2011 09:08

Oscar Henry

Edgar sounds too eggy

hellokitty123 · 02/04/2011 09:17

Edgar by far! Such a lovely classic name that isn't overused. Ed or Eddie are gorgeous nicknames.

Oscar is so 'faddy' and the nicknames Ossie/Oz aren't nice at all imo.

rachel234 · 02/04/2011 09:19

Another vote for Edgar. I really dislike Oscar/Os/Ozzie.

Edgar Henry is beautiful!

changer22 · 02/04/2011 09:19

Edgar. It would have been name of one of my boy twins. I didn't have twins though! The other twin would've been Magnus.

I have boys but they didn't end up with either name!

SolarPanel · 02/04/2011 10:14

I'm afraid I'm not too keen on either, but of the two I'd choose Oscar. Edgar is rather "eggy" as Hedwig3 says. I do like Edwin though.

vaginiasmonalogue · 02/04/2011 10:27

Oscar!

QueenBathsheba · 02/04/2011 10:31

Edgar, it's lovely my grandpa's name so I love it. Too many Oscars around, be different.

Oscar

Emelene · 02/04/2011 15:43

I think Edgar sounds very dated. Maybe Edward?
I like Oscar much better, but then it's quite popular atm.

ragged · 02/04/2011 15:58

I like Edgar a lot. Edgar Allan Poe. 'Nuff said.
Don't take to Oscar at all (Oscar the filthy garbage bin grouch from Sesame St., anyone?).

Can't think of any nice nns for Oscar. Ed for Edgar, if you must, but I think it's great as it is.

ragged · 02/04/2011 15:59

And Edwin is quite wet.... imho!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/04/2011 16:44

Edgar is lovely. Oscar is quite common around here.

karollin · 02/04/2011 18:26

thanks for all your replies ! looks like most people likes Edgar better

my first son name is David but i have real trouble choosing name for next boy (if that was a girl i would name her Emilia but it will be another rascal) :)

I was going to choose Oscar for a boy but i'm having a girl :) i think Oscar is really cute and love the NN Ozzie!

spottyock · 02/04/2011 20:43

Oscar, nn Ozzie.

I know of brothers Edgar and Oscar btw.

oldspeckledtam · 04/04/2011 09:14

How times change! I called my son Edgar 2 years ago and at the time his name was "sneaky, sly and evil."

Edgar is a fabulous name. My son gets Ed, Eddie or Fred as shortenings. (His middle name is frederick)

Go for it!
