I really like the name Philippa and love the nn Pippa, but cant stand 'Phyl' as a nn, so that is holding me back a bit

Really like Alice and Lucia as well

Already have an Oliver and an Edward.

Any other suggestions along those lines? or opinions on the 3 on my list?

I really like Pippa too. I think she would be more likely to be called Pip for short than Phyl

pointydog · 27/03/2011 20:16

Alice is nice.

I'm never sure how to pronounce Lucia so that puts me off.

Don;t like Philippa or Pippa at all.

UrsulaBuffay · 27/03/2011 20:17

Alice

EssieW · 27/03/2011 20:17

I have Oliver and Alice! So you have excellent taste. Alice often gets lots of lovely comments on her name and I like that it can't be shortened easily. I'll point out though that it means you have the same sound at the start of both Oliver and Alice (li) - I didn't realise until afterwards.

Philippa was on our shortlist for DD and a lovely name. Have never thought of Phyl as a nn - always Pippa or Pip.

Don't like Lucia as much.

Other girls names that we liked were Helena, Ellen, Eleanor and Rebecca.

LawrieMarlow · 27/03/2011 20:19

Am a bit biased but would say Alice. I don't like the nickname Pippa though. Not keen on Lucia at all.

CharlieBoo · 27/03/2011 20:21

Alice defo, not keen on Pippa either. My MIL is Philippa and always gets galled Pip.

LawrieMarlow · 27/03/2011 20:21

My Alice does get called a variety of names. "Small" and "Azzer" being my preferred ones. Do not like calling her Azzer and have no idea why I do it BlushGrin.

BelligerentGhoul · 27/03/2011 20:22

Alice is much prettier than the others imho and goes really well with your boys' names.

Oliver, Edward and Isobel
Oliver, Edward and Lydia
Oliver, Edward and Catherine (Kitty)
Oliver, Edward and Elinor
Oliver, Edward and Marianne
Oliver, Edward and Verity
Oliver, Edward and Violet

BikeRunSki · 27/03/2011 20:25

Alice, but am biased.

ScarlettWalking · 27/03/2011 20:25

Nothing difficult to pronounce in Lucia at all. Lu - chi - a

It's the loveliest name in your choice.

CharlieBoo · 27/03/2011 20:26

Lucia is ok if you're European, but it doesn't really go with Oliver and Edward IMO.

CharlieBoo · 27/03/2011 20:27

I mean Spanish/Italian etc...

pointydog · 27/03/2011 20:28

So always pronounced in an italian way?

I'd go for ALice.

doutzen · 27/03/2011 20:29

I have an Alice and obviously think it's the best of the names you have there ;)
I like Lucia as well

VivaLeBeaver · 27/03/2011 20:30

Alice or Phillippa.

I always thought Lucia was Lu-see-a

But I'm not keen either way.

Onion1968 · 27/03/2011 20:35

same as VivaLeBeaver says.

FollowMe · 28/03/2011 10:00

I'm edging towards Alice now..

I would pronounce Lucia as Lu-see-a rather than Lu-chi-a
I only know one person with the name and thats how hers is pronounced, I prefer it that way (not being Italian or Spanish!)

Philippa

baskingseals · 28/03/2011 17:29

Love Alice

Bucharest · 28/03/2011 17:29

Thing is, with Lucia, as you've seen on this thread, you're setting her up for a lifetime of Lu-sia, Luthia, Luchia explanations.

Alice is lovely.

Philippa is one of those "I wanted a boy so I'll put "a" onto a boy's name" names for me.

pilates · 28/03/2011 20:03

Alice is lovely
Lucia is ok
Philippa do not like

Rhubarbgarden · 28/03/2011 20:04

Philippa.

atswimtwolengths · 28/03/2011 20:09

Philippa is awful!

Alice is lovely.

Lucia is lovely if you are Italian.

PrincessScrumpy · 28/03/2011 20:10

I like Pippa but not Phillipa, not won over by Lucia but love Alice - it's on my list too.
