Nameless 2wk old DS!

OK so DS is just over 2 weeks old and so far is called boy! We've been through every name registered in the last 2 years and still can't find one that jumps out at us as 'the one'. In fact we're rapidly approaching the point where we don't feel the need for him to have a name at all Grin

DD has suggested 'Grandad' or 'Tigermonster' and tempted as I am by the second in particular I'm not sure either will quite cut it in later life!

It's all complicated by the fact that DH has a long surname that is hard to match. Similar to Blenkinsop, but more Germanic.

I think we're pretty much down to 2 names:

Francis, probably with Frank and (possibly when little) Frankie as nn, and
Felix, no nn.

My main reservations are: Francis is a bit wet, Frank is a bit 'old man', which makes me worry it will date as the old man names are so popular at the moment, and Frankie is another 'ie' name like Charlie, Archie, Alfie etc, which I'm not keen on.

Felix is obviously a cat/catfood, but tbh this aspect doesn't really bother me. After all Thomas is a tank engine! What does worry me about Felix is that the only thing that stops it being another Max or Oscar is the catfood connotation. Plus I'm hoping to have William as a middle name, which definitely goes better with Francis.

I just can't decide what suits him. He's fair/reddish haired at the moment and likely to be bald when he's older!

There's a slight possibility we may be over thinking this! Help!!

Blah - you lot have no taste - Wesley is the best boy's name ever. Smile

Having said that DH wouldn't let me use it and now because of DD's name I can't use it anyway! Really didn't think it through at all...

Anyway OP call him Francis.

Fraser?

Or make my DH's day and choose Winston Confused

Have heard of a couple of Tristans in the last year which seems to have become a more "classic" less Brideshead type name recently...Ditto Xavier.

How about Benedict?

My current fave is Eli but probably too American for most UK tastes!

Agree Felix is great but getting very popular.

I love Theodore with nn Ted.

Another up and coming name around here seems to be Ralph (along with Hugh...).

I knew a Wesley. Brother of my ex. Not a recommendation for the name. He was awful, too.

I think Felix William is a lovely name!

OP, if you're counting out every name that anyone you know has (the men at work, landlord...!) it really is going to be very tricky. Why on earth are those names counted out? Just because you associate it with that other face?

FWIW, I give you my own longlist:

Archibald
Arthur
Edmund
Francis
Frederick
Gilbert
Giles
Hugh
Llewellyn
Owen
Patrick
Rafe/Raphael
Theodore
Toby/Tobias
Walter

My list was

Patrick (nn Patch so DP said no)
Edgar
Edmund
Finlay
Henry
Hugo
Caleb (DPs choice)
Isaac
Rowan (DSs name)

I liked Francis but DP said it was too girly! I like the idea of a baby Frank. Not keen on Felix TBH

Sadly, my Pateick was only Patch until he was old enough to refuse to answer to it. He is now Patrick - or occasionally PJ.

Oh, I've never heard of "Patch" as a nn for Patrick....thats soooo cute!

I am half Irish and Patrick is always shortened "Paddy".

Patch Confused for Patrick? The ones I know are Pat, Paddy or Patrick.

Dp is all Irish - and in his family, Patrick is Pat. Paddy is considered a feud creating insult. Useful for livening up parties at 4 in the morning!

I am well aware that Patch is effete and ponctastic. As ds decided at the age of about 2.5, when he stopped answering to it. Sad

He is now 10, and has been known to refer to himself as "your own precious little Patchy-Watchy" when in extreme wheedle mode.

So, how is Boy's new name search coming on pushmepullyou? Smile

Oh God, terribly!! I still think we will probably go for Felix or Francis, but no idea which Confused. I guess it will end up being Francis because it seems a bit more versatile, but I feel really Sad at the thought of giving up Felix.

Only 2 weeks left to decide now though!
