Nameless 2wk old DS!

OK so DS is just over 2 weeks old and so far is called boy! We've been through every name registered in the last 2 years and still can't find one that jumps out at us as 'the one'. In fact we're rapidly approaching the point where we don't feel the need for him to have a name at all Grin

DD has suggested 'Grandad' or 'Tigermonster' and tempted as I am by the second in particular I'm not sure either will quite cut it in later life!

It's all complicated by the fact that DH has a long surname that is hard to match. Similar to Blenkinsop, but more Germanic.

I think we're pretty much down to 2 names:

Francis, probably with Frank and (possibly when little) Frankie as nn, and
Felix, no nn.

My main reservations are: Francis is a bit wet, Frank is a bit 'old man', which makes me worry it will date as the old man names are so popular at the moment, and Frankie is another 'ie' name like Charlie, Archie, Alfie etc, which I'm not keen on.

Felix is obviously a cat/catfood, but tbh this aspect doesn't really bother me. After all Thomas is a tank engine! What does worry me about Felix is that the only thing that stops it being another Max or Oscar is the catfood connotation. Plus I'm hoping to have William as a middle name, which definitely goes better with Francis.

I just can't decide what suits him. He's fair/reddish haired at the moment and likely to be bald when he's older!

There's a slight possibility we may be over thinking this! Help!!

I tried to tell DH that DS didn't look like an Angus after all and I was going to start calling him Patch (he really does look like one! especially as he has a birth mark).

But he just gave me the look.

DH suggested Noah.

rachel1970 · 26/03/2011 21:20

Patty? Pat?

ShowOfHands · 26/03/2011 21:29

I LOVE Patrick, particularly Patch. DH has always said no to it.

I know two Frankies, both female. Great name.

KaceyMaybe · 26/03/2011 21:29

I once knew the cutest little boy called Alexander and they called him Felix. I've loved the name ever since.
How about Lance. My Dad's middlename is Lancelot, but I don't think I'd go that far!

DownyEmerald · 26/03/2011 21:37

Marcus is great - have a very good friend called Marcus.

If you're environmental - I know a Reed.

Galen
Idris - my current fave
The scientific name of something - can't think of anything off the top of my head - too much Wine but there must be something. Tho' I went right through my botanical books for dd to no effect.

Eric

I love love love Jonah. Jonas is nice too. Joe is a great nn.

cece · 26/03/2011 21:55

I had the same problem with DS 2.

In the end I just thought sod it, let's call him Tom.

I haven't regretted it for a second.

Timeless and classless. IMO the perfect combination.

cece · 26/03/2011 21:56

Or I could let you have my favourite ever boys name that I cannot use Sad

I give you -

Wesley

Miles.

Good name, germanic in origin, not many around, classic yet quite cool.

Your DH can't possibly object and I bet you don't have a client called Miles.

Am I right?

Robin??? (To go with the reddish hair - tenuous I know Smile)

freshmint · 27/03/2011 18:12

well if you want to pick a name that nobody you've ever met has that might be tricky...

just choose one you love and ignore anyone you know with it. Once it is your boy's, they all become irrelevant
