Rafferty, Hugo or Kit?

Tillylove · 19/03/2011 20:43

We have just found out that I am having a boy and we have no boys names that we really love. We would have had Kitty for a girl.

We like old-fashioned/surfery/quirkey/posh names! (we already have a Daisy).

The names that are in the running so far are...Hugo, Kit and Rafferty but would be interested to hear what people think or if you can think of any other names?

Thank you for your help x

Hugo

ShowOfHands · 19/03/2011 20:47

Is there anything you don't like? Wink Old-fashioned/surfery/quirky/posh is just about every name. Daisy I'd say is a nature name so you clearly like them too. And Kit and Kitty are nicknames so you like nicknamey names. I think you've got a nice, broad spectrum. Grin

I like Hugo and Rafferty equally. Another MNer and one of my most favourite people has a Hugo Rafferty and it's a superb name.

Kit I only really think of as a nickname for Christopher. Kester is also a nickname for Christopher and I like that too.

Tillylove · 19/03/2011 20:50

Ha! ShowofHands you are right - I do like allsorts of names don't I! I've covered quite a range here! I am finding boys names harder than girls though...
Thank you for your input, Kester is really cute too hadn't thought of that one!

From the three listed, I like Rafferty best.

I like all of them. Rafferty was almost ds's middle name. I do think of Kit as a nickname and am not so keen on Christopher but at the same time, like full names on the birth certificate.

randomimposter · 19/03/2011 20:53

I prefer Rafferty personally, but with Daisy I think Kit sounds best.

EllenJane1 · 19/03/2011 20:53

Rafferty and Kit sound like cats names to me. Hugo is the best of the 3.

CharlieBoo · 19/03/2011 21:20

I don't think kit sounds right with Daisy at all personally (my most fave girls name in the world ever, but I am biased Grin

You have got to have Rafferty...my ds was almost this 6 years ago, but then I thought it was too 'out there'. I think its slightly more mainstream now though.

JobCarHouseNoBaby · 19/03/2011 21:25

Personally I'm not a fan of names like these, but if it helps, my friend's siblings are:

Albie (Albert)
Freddy (Frederick)

Ethan is a good boys name but very popular

Hope88 · 19/03/2011 21:57

Rafferty is so lovely.

mamma2boyz · 20/03/2011 08:39

I actually love all 3...know a Rafferty who is adorable (3 years old!!!) so am a bit biased towards that...but also love Kit. Least fave is prob Hugo - when I mentioned it to my 2 boys as a possibility for no 3 they burst out laughing so we took it off the list. We are having Ned for our no 3 (if its a boy?!)

Good luck choosing, just don't use all 3 names in case you have another boy in future as then there will be no names you love left!!!

Tillylove · 20/03/2011 11:28

mamma2boyz - Ned is lovely!

Thank you for all your comments, think we are swaying towards Rafferty but still got 20 weeks to decide!

Sorry, I don't like them. Hugo is probably the best of them.

PepsiPopcorn · 20/03/2011 11:39

Not keen on any TBH, but would pick Hugo of those three.

baskingseals · 20/03/2011 15:47

really like Kit, especially as a nickname for Christian

rikochet · 20/03/2011 21:14

My DS is called Rafferty, love the name.Never fails to get a comment.

bloodymortgagecompanies · 20/03/2011 21:17

Kitto is a Cornish boy's name.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/03/2011 21:22

I think your surname would make a difference to my preference.

They're all quite strong names, Rafferty is quite a long already, so might be a bit much with a long surname iyswim.

Without knowing, Hugo is my favourite but I'm not sure how well it goes with Daisy.

Sorry, I'm no help!

deliakate · 20/03/2011 21:26

Hugo

jenga079 · 20/03/2011 21:49

Ooh, I like Kit. May steal that and add it to my list Smile

Would it be a nickname or a name on it's own though?

Newgolddream · 20/03/2011 22:56

Rafferty definately.Smile, Hugos a bit pretentious.

mamma2boys - you are obviously not in Scotland as I am as "Ned" is our equivalent of the word chav. Good luck with baby no3!!

Tillylove · 21/03/2011 12:01

Thanks all! Not posted on here before and I am finding it really helpful :-)

Iwishiwasmoreorganised, our surname is 2 syllables so not very long but could be classed as a boy's name in itself which is always tricky! Has a 'th' sound in it so we had to dispose of Theo (and Tabitha and Martha for girls) which I liked.

Jenga079 - I like Kit on it's own but the concensus on here is that a fullname on a birth certificate is sensible.

Christian known as Kit was on our list, so gets my vote.

BornAgainDomesticGoddess · 21/03/2011 13:48

I love all three of them Smile.

Incidentally, what name would you have chosen for a girl? I like your style and I need some inspiration Grin
