What do you think of Vesper as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Is it quite cool? We like the spiritual connection (evening prayers time). But obv not the scooter it might be mistaken for......

I love it have done since the James Bond film! If you dont mind your daughter having the same name as a bond girl. That wouldn't put me off.

CrazyHorse · 04/03/2011 20:48

The scooter comes immediately to mind.

TaudrieTattoo · 04/03/2011 20:49

And also pantliners from the 80s, sorry.

meditrina · 04/03/2011 20:49

I thought of Traditional evening prayers.

I think the scooter is a Vespa (which is also the German for "wasp")

laosvher · 04/03/2011 20:50

bond girl
I had a bit of a crush on that one Blush
Quite like it

sharbie · 04/03/2011 20:50

means wasp to me

orienteerer · 04/03/2011 20:51

No

drivingmisscrazy · 04/03/2011 20:51

not a name, sorry

Onion1968 · 04/03/2011 21:26

horrible.

Reallybloodystressed · 04/03/2011 21:27

Terrible. Really terrible. You're naming a person, not a puppy.

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/03/2011 21:29

i think of those dried vespa curries from the 80's....they were like the curry equivalent of the pot noodle...nuff said i think!

Ooid · 04/03/2011 21:30

It sounds good - it's a pleasant word - but I'd immediately think of the Bond woman. And then I'd secretly think you might call your second daughter Pussy.

2cats2many · 04/03/2011 21:30

Baaaaaaad!

Pterosaur · 04/03/2011 21:31

Vesta curries.

Not keen though.

DilysPrice · 04/03/2011 21:33

The Bond girl, who comes to a sticky end, hence it is ill-starred. Also she will eventually be imprisoned for knifing the 17th boring man who's made a hilarious joke about Italian scooters that day.

monkeysmum79 · 04/03/2011 21:39

My daughters name is Vesper... I love it, really love it. My husband isn't so keen though. I do find that it like marmite people love it or hate it! It does get misspelled a lot and yes people have actually asked me if I named her after a scooter! Hmm
But I don't regret naming her Vesper at all, the more I hear myself say it the more I love it (it's a grower) and she will always have a talking point when she meets new people!
I also like the links with evening prayers, and Venus the evening star. The wishing star, and the little rhyme 'star light, star bight, first star.... Smile

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/03/2011 21:48

oh it was VESTA nor VESPA curries! sorry!

Bettyspencer · 04/03/2011 21:59

I thought of the dried curries too!

Bumperlicious · 04/03/2011 22:09

Isn't it the name of sanitary wear?

Bumperlicious · 04/03/2011 22:12

But then someone on here told me that my DD's name sounded like sanitary wear so maybe I am biased!

freerangeeggs · 04/03/2011 22:14

How about Hesper? I think that's beautiful.

I do think Vesper is a cool name, though. It doesn't sound exactly like Vespa to me because I pronounce the R at the end (Scottish).

MmeLindt · 04/03/2011 22:15

Vespa - Wasp in Italian

In Germany a Vesper is a light meal, normally eaten in the evening.

It is a no from me, sorry.

LadyBoudica · 04/03/2011 22:18

Mmm. not so keen. The scooter does spring to mind first of all. Sounds quite hard and spiky!

lilyberry · 04/03/2011 22:42

Reminds me of Eva Green - beautiful.

Rhubarbgarden · 04/03/2011 22:47

I like it.
