Okay, okay, I know it's not PC to use the term 'chavvy' . . . but is it?

Yep, chavvy.

birdofthenorth · 04/03/2011 21:57

Yes, a bit. I quite liked Shayla but DH vetoed it, possibly using the phrase "chavarama" (I disagreed, but thatvwas his gut reaction!)

usualsuspect · 04/03/2011 21:57

whats a chavvy name?

CrazyHorse · 04/03/2011 21:58

Yes, and Kaya, Keira, and Kayleigh.

SecretNutellaFix · 04/03/2011 21:58

usualsuspect · 04/03/2011 21:59

Is Keith a chavvy name then?

saffy85 · 04/03/2011 22:00

I would immediately think chav. It's not a horrible name but I know/know of a fair few girls named Kayla/Kyla and they are all "chavs".

Bear in mind I too am rather chavvy, as is my sister, yet both our names are often shortlisted by people on these threads for their own DC as they are "classic" names.

ShowOfHands · 04/03/2011 22:03

Chavvy is a terrible term but it implies that the name is associated with people of a certain socioeconomic status and even disliking the term, I know what it means. My sil defines herself as a chav and is fairly proud. She has one of those clown necklaces. I think that's like a badge.

My Irish friend has a Cadhla which is a similar sound. Prettier though.

usualsuspect · 04/03/2011 22:05

Its an im better than you term pisses me right off

Beamur · 04/03/2011 22:07

There was a little girl with this name at DD's nursery and she was absolutely gorgeous and not chavvy at all.
It wouldn't be my choice though.
