Okay, okay, I know it's not PC to use the term 'chavvy' . . . but is it?

Yes.

It may be wrong, but it's true.

People will judge, and I say this as a lone parent, work as a cleaner, live in a small house on an estate!

If you are privately educating, and talk like you have a plum in your mouth, then go for it, if not, then think twice and choose something more neutral.

Sad, but true I'm afraid.
That's life.

I find the label "chav" distasteful.

However, most people who have lived in the UK for some time are very good at picking up the tiny indicators of socioeconomic status. Name is one of these. To me, Kayla says "social housing".

usualsuspect · 05/03/2011 19:31

Social housing is a bad thing then?

muminthecity · 05/03/2011 19:40

I'd say it was more American-topless-waitress-ish than chav but there you go!

Tw1nkle · 05/03/2011 19:43

I quite like it!
I also like Krista!

Both I suppose could seem a little chavvy, but not overly.

ps - my real name is 'Kay'!!!

I'm afraid it is a bit chavvy. I think is because like Shayla it sounds like a made-up name rather than a 'real name'. I have no idea what its origins actually are though. Twinkle I was going to say that I like the name Kay, simple but pretty and quite unusual.
