What do you all think of Kim for a boy? I really like it but think I may be the only one who does.

You'd have to be v brave. I like it for a girl.

breatheslowly · 24/02/2011 19:14

Do you really want your boy to constantly have people expecting him to be a girl? I think that this might be irritating or even distressing depending on the child.

tallulah · 24/02/2011 19:15

I like it, but would suggest an obviously male middle name to balance it.

LouMacca · 24/02/2011 20:09

When I hear the name Kim I automatically think of a dog, sorry.

mathanxiety · 24/02/2011 20:14

Thought it was for a girl and was going to say 'very nice'.

WinkyWinkola · 24/02/2011 20:15

Kit is better for a boy.

ValiumSingleton · 24/02/2011 20:33

I like it. My second cousin, a boy, is called Kim He's about 50 though. But I know a girl who is quite cool who called her boys Kim and the other name is unisex too. Had written it in but then thought better of putting the two together

ValiumSingleton · 24/02/2011 20:35

theagedparent, i think maybe it's only because I know male kims that I can see it works. if i didn't know any male kims either i'd probably think, no.

girliefriend · 24/02/2011 20:39

Kim is very cool for a girl not sure for a boy (agree Kit might be better!)

randomimposter · 24/02/2011 20:59

I know a few male Kims.
But it does still sound a bit odd to me. Sorry.

OliveMalay · 25/02/2011 00:29

Wouldn't use it for a boy, quite nice for a girl though.

LessNarkyPuffin · 25/02/2011 00:36

It's a dog's name. A female dog's name.

anonymosity · 25/02/2011 04:24

It is a male human name, I have met one or two, but it make me cringe in a HUGE way and always has. I do agree that Kit is vastly better.

BarbieLovesKen · 25/02/2011 10:32

Immediately thought "boy named Sue.."

CuppaTeaJanice · 25/02/2011 10:36

I know a male Kim. He calls himself Richard at work!

Sarsaparilllla · 25/02/2011 11:22

I know a man called Kim, it's ok, not majorly keen, I agree Kit is much nicer

babyapplejack · 25/02/2011 11:29

Kim is lovely for a girl. Hate it for a boy.

theagedparent · 25/02/2011 11:33

I have only ever met male Kims, You are right about Kit being nicer x

I think to call a boy Kim you're going to have to assume he's tough, independent and likes to stand out. I shy little boy might find it tough at school but grow to like it later

GRW · 25/02/2011 19:32

It reminds me of the boy in the musical Miss Saigon. I know a 15 year boy called Kim, and I like it a lot.

growing3rdbump · 25/02/2011 20:51

I know a 20 yrs old boy Kim. Think he likes his name.

Rhubarbgarden · 25/02/2011 22:38

I love it for a boy. I knew a gorgeous Kim years ago, it really suited him. To me it's a quiet, bookish, intellectual name. Very classy.

5DollarShake · 26/02/2011 09:43

I had a massive crush on a (male) Kim 20 years ago - he was gorgeous!

upahill · 26/02/2011 09:50

I also think it is a dog's name firstly.

At a push a girls shortend name for Kimbereley which then reminds me of a shit Victoria Wood sketch where she keeps saying Kembereley in a stupid voice.

meditrina · 27/02/2011 17:58

I like it. I think of it as a genuinely unisex name, but not one I've heard recently. The youngest female Kim I know in RL must be about 50 by now, and the youngest male about 40.

I tend to think of it as a boy's name because of the Rudyard Kioling novel, though it was short for Kimball in that.
