Worst spelling of perfectly ordinary names? Elyviya anyone?

I have met a Danyal, Daniol, Naiphthan, Caytie and an Alivia. Why do people consign their children to a life time of 'no, that's Daniel spelt...'? Any equally terrible ones out there?

Jorja = that is so so so so bad.

The school I work in has had a Missellie (as in Miss Ellie from Dallas) ,the family thought that was her name. We have also got a Taila (Taylor) at DS nursery.
Other gems I've come across over the years in a school include Chelsea Bunn and Charity Munney. Do these people think at all when naming their child? The registrar at DS registration said he had refused to register a child as Satan and came up with several other hideous names that he obviously considered offensive.

Genipher ... I shit you not. Also have heard of a k8e?!?
Pmsl at missellie:) too good!

I was in a toy shop over the weekend and I heard a mother call her son what I thought was Jackson, but no, when she called him again it was definitely Klaxon Shock

Bunbaker · 20/12/2011 08:50

Ysobel or Konner anyone?

Apart from the fact that the names look too contrived and the spelling will have to be corrected all the time, it looks like the parents are either dyslexic or, even worse, badly educated.

dmo · 20/12/2011 09:06

I looked after a child called Ryhan (Ryan)

johnworf · 20/12/2011 09:53

I have a friend whose name is pronounced Iz-ma but spelled Asma (Arabic, I think). When she told her work it was spelled 'Az-ma' they printed her name label out to read Asthma! Amused her greatly

marmiteandjam · 20/12/2011 10:06

This is my pet hate, it just looks as though the parents couldn't spell when they chose the name.

Miette · 20/12/2011 10:13

Have come across a little boy called Anarchy.

JugglingWithGoldandMyrhh · 20/12/2011 10:38

You can now call your child whatever you like (within reason) in France. We gave our DD a simplified spelling of a common name and no one batted an eyelid at the mairie.

Re: Aime/Aimee the former is masculin, the latter is feminin. The french probably wondered WTF the Brits were doing when they changed it to Amy.

missmiss · 20/12/2011 11:13

I've encountered a female Cydne (Sidney).

pud1 · 20/12/2011 11:29

There is an izzack at my dds nursery

ElfOnTheShelf · 20/12/2011 12:04

I encountered an Amiee the other day. Had written it how i thought it was spelt but got an email back with the revised spelling - makes me wonder if it was intended to be Aimee but the mum got it slightly muddled at the birth registration (she is in her 30s btw) Also spelt Leanne the wrong way as it was actually Leighanne. (I write up contracts and now have to ask 'how is that spelt' to save embarrassment)

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 20/12/2011 12:12

Makylea (pn Michaela)
Jordon
Kigh (pn Kai)

I also love the name Aoife, but couldn't subject my baby to a lifetime of spelling out her first name AND surname!

zumm · 20/12/2011 13:18
