We are going round in circles.. is Romily too unusual? I had to show DH a utube clip of Romily Weeks to convince him that it is a real name. We also like Verity but are concerned it may be a little "prim".

My two fave girls names! They were my top two with DC1 - who turned out to be a DS so haven't used either...yet. Plan to at some point though! Verity slightly preferred at the moment but I change my mind regularly!

wannabesocialworker has a point. Our Romilly does get called lots of things because people often mishear it and aren't familiar with it so we've had 'Bromley' and we do get 'Romany' sometimes too. And sometimes you find yourself spelling it out, too. People are a bit confused by it on occasion.

I've got a Verity...she's a foot-stomping, opinionated, argumentative 2.5yr old. She looks prim (think 1930s child with curls)-she looks like a Verity but she is turning out to be 'devil-child'Hmm Don't let that put you off Grin

Romilly is lovely too

superv1xen · 13/02/2011 17:23

i like the name verity.

tis my name. and i am very pleased to hear lots of people like it.

although i will say that i hated it growing up and some kids at school used to call me "variety" with great hilarity Hmm

now as an adult i like it, although find i have to spell it out to people a lot.

ps-i was a very naughty child, a lot like jeanjeannie's verity by the sounds of it! :o

romilysmum · 03/03/2011 22:49

i have a littlr girl called romily and as much as i love it i find it really annoying as ppl often ask me if iv made it up and say its not a real name or say stuff like"where did u get that from" and much to my dispare as i have found out it can be shortened and will no matter how much u correct ppl,my girl gets rommers,rom,roms,romy,romper-stomper...to name a few!!!![anger]

but on the other hand i love, love, loveeeee verity wot a lovely name for a little girl :)

I prefer Romily but Verity is nice too. Try saying them lots of times with surname and see which sounds better over all.

fifi25 · 03/03/2011 23:40

I also like Romille Smile

KittyBigglesworth · 04/03/2011 12:49

I prefer Romilly. Romola is a twist on that too, the actress Romola Garai has a first and surname that combine well.

Rhubarb, I vaguely remember a Verity from the Kenny Everett show too, the name of another one of his characters, Cupid Stunt, is the most memorable - went completely over my head as a child. Something about Verity is too Girl Guides.

KittyBigglesworth · 04/03/2011 12:51

Meant to spell it Romily.

Janus · 04/03/2011 13:07

Ooh, Romilly, love it, adds to my shortlist!!
How do you pronounce Romy, ie Romeeeee or Roameee?

fifi25 · 04/03/2011 14:04

romee i think Janus, Romille is nice as well, theres not many about but seems to be getting a bit more popular, mines nearly 7 and never met another one yet Smile

freshmint · 04/03/2011 14:06

romilly

verity sounds po-faced and dull

sorry

minipie · 04/03/2011 14:12

I like both but prefer Romilly - Verity sounds a bit middle aged to me, plus can't think of a good short form (whereas Romilly can have Romy or Milly)

PfftTheMagicDragon · 04/03/2011 14:18

I love Romily

expectingno3 · 04/03/2011 21:24

Ohh, difficult choice! Both great names. I think I prefer Romily.
