Adelaide (nn Ada)?

Hello

We are still on a quest for a girl's name....it was not this hard the first time round!

What do people think about Adelaide, with Ada as a nickname? Middle name will be Hope.

We have a one syllable (rare) surname and all have quite unusual names. DD is called Arabel.

Any thoughts appreciated!

I think Adelaide is lovely!

I'm not so sure about Ada as the nn (sounds rather dull to me) but the day-to-day name will probably evolve spontaneously anyhow.

Oooh Adelaide Hope is a really, really beautiful name!!!. Gorgeous. Ada is lovely but with a name like Adelaide I'd be using the full version most. Smile

Great name.

mybootsaremuddy · 05/02/2011 19:21

Beautiful name. I know a 4yr old one with nn Addie.

pinguwings · 05/02/2011 19:28

Gorgeous. Elegant and pretty and also one off my short list. Good luck!

pipplin · 05/02/2011 20:25

I love it, Ada sounds lovely as a nn too

AllieW · 05/02/2011 23:07

Beautiful, BUT with your DD having an A name too I'd be loath to use it because of the post issue. Of course, if that doesn't bother you, then go ahead!

GRW · 06/02/2011 10:00

I like it, and think Ada might be due for a comeback, as Ava and Eva have become popular.

EauRouge · 06/02/2011 17:10

Love it, if DC2 is a girl then she will be Adelaide. You obviously have very good taste Grin

TheMonster · 06/02/2011 17:11

NO.

allatsea1 · 06/02/2011 20:49

Love Adelaide - but not Ada or Hope.

Northernlurker · 06/02/2011 20:52

I have been saying Ada should come back for ages. I think it's a really great name.

Adelaide Hope is lovely too.

penelopestitsdropped · 06/02/2011 20:53

I love Ada.

chocadoodle · 06/02/2011 20:53

Adelaide is also nice when shortened to Adele.

breatheslowly · 06/02/2011 20:56

I love it. I wanted to call DD Ada after Ada Lovelace who was the first computer programmer, but apparently that was a bit Hmm even though DH is a computer programmer.

LifeOfKate · 06/02/2011 21:00

Lovely :o I'd love to use it, but would get the Hmm face from DH if I suggested it :(

Aitch · 06/02/2011 21:03

love adelaide but i really don't like ada.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/02/2011 22:01

Bit of a tongue twister when said together with Arabel.

Lovely, and very nice with Arabel. I love Ada too -- I think it's nicer than Addie.

stressheaderic · 07/02/2011 13:10

I know twins called Sydney and Adelaide.

Not sure if this helps or not...

teobaldo · 07/02/2011 14:01

I really like both Adelaide - Ada and Adele but wonder if they are not too similar to Arabel ?

MrsDeidreIppy · 07/02/2011 14:08

Love it but think that its too similar to Arabel, too may As

I love Adelaide - the variants Adele and Adeline are on our girls list as Adelaide isn't as nice in French.

However with an Arabel I'm not so sure.

cheapFlower · 08/02/2011 09:35

I think Adelaide is really nice and love Ada (my DD's name is Ada :) )
