I'm not keen. Even though his peers won't get the references, Roland is often shortened to Roly. If he's not as svelte as he might be, it could give rise to unpleasant nicknames.

It does make me think of the rat,but I still like it.

I just think of Roland's friend Janet in Grange Hill saying Row-land.

I love it, makes me think of Song of Roland - but then I studied medieval English at university . DH vetoed it on Grange Hill grounds .

Rat or I think the fat kid in Roald Dahl's The Witches but not 100% on that one.

I think Roland is better than Rowland. Rowland looks like a surname.

But tbh it's not a very attractive name.
