Ever

I love this name. DH thinks it's not a good cultural fit for us. I don't know how he came to that conclusion as he said he's never heard anyone called Ever before.

But I love it. It reminds me of "Happily Ever After". We are doing IVF after a very long battle so I think it would be appropriate.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Please be honest. Thanks.

Girl or boy? I actually like it for either. What does your DH like?

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 04:31

Girl. My DH likes Isabella, which is a beautiful name, but just a wee bit too popular, I think.

It also depends on where you live...are the names more out there or traditional?

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/01/2011 07:19

Sounds like you are mispronouncing "Heather" (esp if you are from London!) or mis-spelling Eva - might that be an option for you? Some nationalities pronounce "Eva" as "Ever".

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 07:19

We live in Dubai, so there are people here from all over the world. I have always gone for slightly unusual names for my children. But I don't want to choose something that will cause them to be ridiculed.

How about Never?

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 07:42

That's what my DH said, SoupDragon.

:) I'm not him, honest.

There are lots of names which mean "gift" to some degree or other joyful things. Perhaps research those?

Feeb1 · 27/01/2011 07:52

By no means the worst name but slightly odd.

When I was 7 I wanted to call my future daughter Zinfandel after the bottle of wine. Thank goodness I never had a daughter.

PuraVida · 27/01/2011 07:54

Is it actually a name or is it just a word?

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 07:56

It is listed in the Mumsnet Baby Name Finder, so I guess that means it's a bonafide name.

yeah i agree about it sounding like a mispronouning of heather! Id have another think if i were you

FakePlasticTrees · 27/01/2011 08:35

my first thoughts were sounds like Heather with an accent. She'll spend her life on the phone to call centres correcting databases listing her as Heather.

Eric means eternal or ever - could you go for Erica/Erika? (am assuming it has a similar meaning)

TallulahdoesthehulainHawaii · 27/01/2011 08:39

Sounds like the way they pronounce Heather in EE, could be Ev for n/n?

ValiumSandwichTime · 27/01/2011 08:41

I think people will think that you have really strong london accents and have spelt Eva alternatively or something like that.

I actually like Heather..!

Ever is too random a word. SOme words as names I like, but nouns I think. If I heard a child called Ever I know I would be annoyingly dumb and ask to have it repeated and confirmed a few times before I'd grasped it. It just seems so random to me.

ValiumSandwichTime · 27/01/2011 08:43

Feeb1, when I was pregnant Chardonnay was being used (occasionally) and I thought ha ha ha of course, how silly, but I still thought Merlot would be lovely for a girl wouldnt it?! nobody agreed.

MmeLindt · 27/01/2011 08:52

I wouldn't.

Even in international cities, it is an unusual and odd name. I live in Geneva and have heard lots of different names but would wonder at that one.

Aside from anything else, you may not be in Dubai forever, and she will have the name for the rest of her life.

Grace

Faith

Cassandra means "gift"

Feeb1 · 27/01/2011 09:00

Valium

am thinking maybe a whole brood named after wines of the world. Girls can be white or rose and the boys red.

"Grigio, Savignon, Cabernet, Shiraz - time for tea". Maybe not!

MommyMayhem - stick Ever on the list with a couple of others you like and wait till baby appears. You'll both know if it's right when baby arrives.

Good luck

kreecherlivesupstairs · 27/01/2011 09:30

Joy. that would be my choice. Like Mme, we've lived all over the world and I would certainly look like this Hmm if I heard that name.
You may as well call your LL stand or wait or something like that. HTH.

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 09:43

MmeLindt : "Cassandra means gift"

Gift? You're bloody kidding me, aren't you? This IVF has cost us 50 bloody grand!

OP posts:
Hedwig3 · 27/01/2011 09:47

Could it be your special nickname for her?

Use an Eve-type name maybe.

MmeLindt · 27/01/2011 09:50

LOL MummyMayhem.

I meant it more as a Gift from kind of way.

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 09:55

Yeah, I know MmeLindt, it did make me laugh, though Smile
