I love this name. DH thinks it's not a good cultural fit for us. I don't know how he came to that conclusion as he said he's never heard anyone called Ever before.

But I love it. It reminds me of "Happily Ever After". We are doing IVF after a very long battle so I think it would be appropriate.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Please be honest. Thanks.

I had a friend at school called Eva, pronounced "Ever". Would you consider that?

wigglesrock · 27/01/2011 10:04

I've heard it used as a girls name before, I quite like it, someone famous (thinking rocksstarry has a daughter called it). I'm spending far too much of this pregnancy on MN baby names and E-online Grin

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 10:09

I have just discovered that Milla Jovovich and Alanis Morisette both have children (girl and boy respectively) called Ever.

Damn them.

The Welsh equivalent to Eva is Efa - which is pronounced Ever. So here whilst the spelling would be unusual the name Efa isn't. Don't suppose you have any Welsh connections??

wigglesrock · 27/01/2011 10:15

Thank you, it was Milla Jovovich I was thinking of, I wouldn't let that put you off, unless you really dislike either of them (mind you Alanis Morisette Hmm)

You are never going to find a name no-one else has and the more I say it the more I like it, go for it Smile

SoupDragon · 27/01/2011 11:47

"It is listed in the Mumsnet Baby Name Finder, so I guess that means it's a bonafide name."

Um... not necessarily because I added one completely made up name to that for a joke once Blush

mylifewithstrangers · 27/01/2011 11:53

Soupy I think Akkuntalina is a lovely name. very evocative Grin

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 12:33

Can you do that SoupDragon? Gosh, I didn't know. What name did you add?

Ha, ha, ha!!! I can't believe you did that Grin

There was a reason... I just can't think what it was right now! :o

TallulahdoesthehulainHawaii · 27/01/2011 16:58

Lol at Soupy bastardising the MN Baby Name finder, whowuldavthunkit?

SoupDragon · 27/01/2011 17:01

Ah yes. It was simply testing the theory that if you added a name, it automatically started a "I found this name on the MN name finder..." thread. IIRC, there had been a spate of people asking about bizarre names and then apparently starting a thread about them.

Mine even made Name of the Week [proud]

BecauseItoldYouSo · 27/01/2011 17:24

I love, love, love the name. It was a very strong contender for us. I can't stand 'common' names.

Be brave and go for it!!

TallulahdoesthehulainHawaii · 27/01/2011 17:27

Well at least you can't say Akkuntalina is ^^ common!

My friend has a daughter called Eva, pronounced Ever because her mum is (I think) Polish. I thought it was lovely :)

MommyMayhem · 27/01/2011 17:53

Thanks for the suggestion BluddyMoFo, but I'd rather not name my daughter after a sanitary towel, thanks.

Eva??

strawberrylion · 27/01/2011 20:14

Yes Milla Jovovich has an 'Ever' I really like it!

SilkStalkings · 27/01/2011 23:05

But it is soooo random and meaningless out of the context of 'happily ever after', it's like calling your child Really or Sometimes or Upon. And it sounds like you really love the names Eva/Ava but decided to tweak it to be exotic, with the fairytale connection stuck on as pre-emptive self-defence.

What about gemstone names, ie meaning precious/expensiveWink, are they too mainstream?

MommyMayhem · 28/01/2011 02:23

The 'Happily Ever After' bit I only thought of afterwards. But you have raised a good point... I hate it when people take ordinary names and change the spelling to make them quirky. I would hate for people to think that I had done that. As much I love the name, I think I need to have a re-think.

Thanks for talking some sense into me.

Thank heavens for that! [bgrin]

Actually after how much the little darling has cost you already how about...

'Expensive'
'InDebtForLife'
'NeverAskForPocketMoney'
'MadeOfGold'

I hope you find something you really like :)

Zinfandel beats my choice of names at 7 - I thought Bricfeásta was the most bee-uuuuutiful name (Irish for breakfast...)
