Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SingingSands · 23/01/2011 00:37

My favourite cbeebies birthday card was for a child called "Splendid". Made me smile all day, after seeing that!

lololizzy · 23/01/2011 00:38

Nell Gwynn Hmm

twirlymum · 23/01/2011 08:37

I knew a little girl called Sugar.

thisismyboomstick · 23/01/2011 08:51

Osiris is the egyptian god of the afterlife and was also Old Dirty Bastard's (from t' Wu Tang Clan) alter ego.

DitaVonCheese · 23/01/2011 13:11

My godfather's wife taught an Inertia :)

MissBeehiving · 23/01/2011 13:36

God, I love Inertia. I want that as my name. Grin

Petalouda · 23/01/2011 14:04

just found this thread and love it! Shame I live in the arse end of pretty much nowhere and haven't come across many weird names.

Although I went to school with an Adonis (I think he's of polynesian descent, although I could be wrong) he carried it off well!

My sister nearly called her new son Korben.

I teach a Chardonnay, who is lovely, but I heave a little sigh every time I take the register!

We've had a Marley in school, but I didn't have the pleasure of his company. He wasn't with us long.

I quite like Larch. And I've heard of a Cedar too, which I think is lovely.

Which makes my first choice for ours (due march) quite tame, really!

DitaVonCheese · 23/01/2011 14:07

Larch is quite nice, but surely you are always going to be known as Number 5 (The Larch) (or I'm showing my age Blush

DitaVonCheese · 23/01/2011 14:07

)

MommyMayhem · 23/01/2011 14:11

There's a trend in the US at the moment to name children after places in England but mis-spell them. I know of several Londyn's and Camdin's.

Petalouda · 23/01/2011 14:18

We've got a Devin. Which was weird when he started, as we are in Devon.

Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 14:25

Larch = way to close to Lurch

Nothing beats Lampard as a first name..Grin

MissBeehiving · 23/01/2011 14:30

DH was at Cambridge with a uni (she was the third child in her family). Dead posh they were.

Petalouda · 23/01/2011 14:30

True re Lurch. And Lampard?!

Oh, and I forgot a beauty: never met the child, but I know of a "Beckham"

BalloonSlayer · 23/01/2011 14:34

By thunder, I wish I'd called DS1 Inertius. It would suit him down to the ground.

In response to some other comments:

  • There is a Dimity in Gone With the Wind. (Dimity Monroe?)
  • And for the Love of God - It's "Alas poor Yorick, I knew him, Horatio"
Mumcentreplus · 23/01/2011 14:35

My DH's work colleague's new baby son is named Lampard..I kid you not!

asdx2 · 23/01/2011 14:37

I know brothers called Saracen and Wolf so I tend to think their parents must have liked Gladiators when it was on Grin

Petalouda · 23/01/2011 14:37

just to clarify, I'm not the only person who judges parents (probably entirely wrongly, granted) by these names, right?

BalloonSlayer · 23/01/2011 14:39

I knew a Marley too.

It was funny when he was paired with Jacob to do something.

nannynobnobs · 23/01/2011 17:08

The lovely Gary Dourdan (Warwick Brown in CSI) has a son called Lyric :)
Laughing at rather a lot of these, I used to have a mouse called Inertia and a cat called Beckham :o
The Larch...
The. Larch.
Theeee... LARCH.

socialhandgrenade · 23/01/2011 17:16

I have come across a Diesal at my local playgroup.

theresapotatoundermysink · 23/01/2011 17:21

I know you've all moved on by now, but I know a Bronte and she's lovely and it's lovely. So there.

onimolap · 23/01/2011 17:30

I know a Bronte too - I assumed it was transferred surname and a homage to the literary sisters.

I also met three boys called Dante and, by fluke I suppose, all were little thugs quite lively.

lololizzy · 23/01/2011 17:48

ha the Larch! Monty Py!!
there is a Bronte in my sis in law's family.
I know a couple of Cedars..lovely name.

MelinaM · 24/01/2011 00:05

I can't stand the deliberate misspelling of names in the effort to be 'individual', madness! ..hyphenating is also a real bugbear for me!
A few nasty examples that I've come across lately: Emelia-Mae, Hollee, Rueby-May, Cyenna-Rose, Cortnee, Dazey, Elleey-Ray, Jayde, Mistie-Blue, Izzabel, Iylah (Isla), Jorja ...as for the boys well ...Kanyee, Caeden, Alfee-William, Jay, Harvee, Junyor!!!
Absolutely shocking!!!! Why, oh why?!!!!!
