Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

There is an Ozzy here who has every movement he makes congratulated in a newspaper family announcement. Always makes me think of Ozzy Osbourne shouting "Sharon"

UniS · 21/01/2011 20:38

Heaven-leigh.

and I do know a child named after a fine single malt.

spidookly · 21/01/2011 20:38

Baby name websites (and books) are full of shit.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/01/2011 20:40

GRW · 21/01/2011 20:40

London for a girl. I wonder if the 2012 Olympics will make it popular.

KittyBump · 21/01/2011 20:43

In the course of my work I have met a Cerise-Pink, Jack Daniels (as his first name) and a Titti Anna - the mind boggles Hmm

WimpleOfTheBallet · 21/01/2011 20:44

I met a Dimity, which I actually really like...it sounds dainty...but would be shortened to Dim...which isn't great.

It's a type of printed fabrc I think.

Mopsa was a bit daft in that play..a sort of yokel type. Her mate was Dorcas..which is lovely in a Dorky sort of way.

spidookly · 21/01/2011 20:47

Dimity - as in a corruption of Dimitri?

PMSL @ Titti-Anna

Tatiana and Titania's mongrel offspring.

thomasbodley · 21/01/2011 20:52

Wasn't Titty one of the children in 'Swallows and Amazons'?

I recently heard of a child called Finn Moore. If he goes to boarding school he's going to be "Morphine" (Moor, Finn), I guarantee it.

HettyAmaretti · 21/01/2011 20:54

Vanity. Yes really.

chickbean · 21/01/2011 20:56

Mother a Wham fan?

ValiumSilverTongue · 21/01/2011 21:00

I know of a Ryanne. Not crazy about it but I think this is a certain trend, and won't be exactly rare.

pinkmagic1 · 21/01/2011 21:04

Heard a mother shouting 'Ceaser' at her DS the other day, as in Julius!

spidookly · 21/01/2011 21:06

Ryanne is a relatively normal name in the US

WimpleOfTheBallet · 21/01/2011 21:07

No Spidookly...Dimity is a type of fabric.it's a English word I'm sure...very old one.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/01/2011 21:10

My living room is painted in Farrow & Ball Dimity!

eatyourveg · 21/01/2011 21:14

I know a woman who has named her youngest Tuppence.

BTW I don't think Hebe is strange at all. I know one and have never thought of it as particularly unusual

Tortoise · 21/01/2011 21:14

Odyssey is one that has appeared locally!

onimolap · 21/01/2011 22:24

My DS was at nursery with an Osiris. Also recently in the park, I heard someone calling for a boy named Adonis.

Exogenesis · 21/01/2011 22:29

I know a Rainbow and A tree.

timetomove · 21/01/2011 22:30

How is Hebe pronounced? Does it rhyme with Phoebe?

onimolap · 21/01/2011 22:41

Timetomove: yes. She was a daughter of Zeus, and cup-bearer to the gods.

merrymonsters · 21/01/2011 23:06

I knew a Hebe at school. It was pronounced Heb-ah. She was Egyptian.
