Sigh-Anne.

I thought the woman was mispronouncing Sian, then saw the name written down. Sigh-Anne. I mean, what on earth...?

the other was a little boy called Ragen. As in Ronald Regan, but Ragen. Ragen? I am not a name snob, but I do draw the line at deliberately misspelling surnames and then using them as a first name! Grin

Expecting DC1 end of Nov which we're fully expecting to be a boy and we love the name Jasper. Would people always think of Jasper Carrot though?

Suncottage · 02/08/2011 11:05

PrincessScrumpy · 02/08/2011 22:39

I know a girl called Carisma (spelled like that - without the "H") - she also seriously lacks any charisma too!

niccibabe · 03/08/2011 15:23

We met an (otherwise charming) NY family on holiday this summer who had three young daughters called Anna, Chase and Marley. Why call your first child a totally classic name and then your two subsequent daughters out-there names?

carabos · 09/08/2011 09:37

My dad worked with a guy who had three daughters called Faith, Hope and Charity...

Saski · 09/08/2011 12:31

Trebilcock is a common surname in Cornwall. The emphasis should be on the 'bil' as in 'Truh-BIL-cock'. Saying Treble-cock is funnier though.

I know a Sian that pronounces it Si-an. Yuck.
I also know a Ciara that pronounces it Ci-a-ra to rhyme with tiara.

Years ago I saw the grottiest mother dragging her daughter around the supermarket. The little girl was named Crystal-Marie. WHY???

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 26/08/2011 17:06

I heard someone yelling for a Tayzer (not sure of the spelling). My sister taught an Allora and there was a China Blue at a baby club I attended. Worked with a Cara Mia.

IamtheSnorkMaiden · 26/08/2011 17:15

Cara Mia is sweet.

wahwahwah · 26/08/2011 17:17

Busybee21 · 26/08/2011 17:21

Where do I start with the weird names I've come across! Twin boys called Jake-Lee and Isaac-Lee, a Trafford (after the football ground) and a Christmas (luckily male so could go by the nickname Chris!). I honestly don't know where some of these names come from..

Charlotte Bronte's father was Irish and originally his surname was brunty, but he changed it to Bronte when he went to cambridge. I think Bronte is a lovely name though, but the writers all had such sad lives and died young so it owuld put me off using it.

kelly2000 · 26/08/2011 18:25

I knew of sisters called Mona and Lisa, I heard (and I hope this was ajoke) of a girl called Theresa Tickles, with her first name shortened to Tess! I also heard of a girl in New Zealand called Tallula does the hula from hawaii. parently she went to court to get made a ward of the state so she could change her name, they have also had children called number x bus shelter, and a newspaper article said in the UK there were six children called superman, an two called Arsenal last year. Why oh why?

My mother in law was chatting to her midwife friend about bad names she had heard...

She told her that some chav mother had considered calling her child Clamydia!!!!

We still laugh about it! Luckily the
MW set her straight, chav just said she
Liked the 'ring' of it!!!

Would she have had a brother called Herpes?!

KateBC · 01/09/2011 10:40

I heard a little boy being called 'Corbiere' a few days ago, which is the name of a lighthouse where I live (Jersey), and also means something close to 'crow's nest' in French
