Rory or Ewan?

Which do you prefer? I'm thinking Rory Douglas or Ewan James.

Love them both but can't decide which to go with. Also, what do you think of this spelling of Ewan? Would you prefer Euan? (We wouldn't want to use Ruaridh instead of Rory purely because we live in England and OH has an overtly Scottish name that he always has to spell and he doesn't want our son to have to do the same)

Thanks!

Ewan for me. Ewan James sounds great together.

sonniboo · 18/01/2011 12:50

Ewan is a lovely underused name. Ewan James sound great together.

petitdonkey · 18/01/2011 13:10

I would go for Rory as I love it but is certainly more popular if that bothers you.
I also prefer the spelling Euan - my friend is Ewan and for some reason I struggle to spell it his way and always have to think twice.

Both lovely names though.

flopsy1974 · 18/01/2011 15:26

Ewan James is a lovely name and sound really good together. I don't like Rory at all I'm afraid.

PlanetLizard · 18/01/2011 16:15

Ewan.

Ro(a)ry is a lion's name.

Edmundo · 18/01/2011 17:13

Rory for me.

bluebump · 18/01/2011 17:14

Rory, it's one of my favourite boys names.

ValiumSilverTongue · 18/01/2011 17:57

Rory Douglas, I love that. Douglas too.

The other one, something James, Ewan James, I had to scroll up because I'd forgotten it already.

I have a Euan - he was going to be Ewan right until I had him then something hormonal happened and I got all worried about the sheep connection (Ewe - completely bizarre now but there you are!). I think Ewan must be the more common spelling as his name is frequently spelt that way.

I like Rory too but rather than I lion I think racing car (however once past childhood I'm sure this wouldn't effect him!)

lightdemerara · 18/01/2011 21:55

Rory Douglas - love it! We would have called our DD Rory had she been a boy. Ewan is nice too though. :)
Good Luck!

Honeydragon · 18/01/2011 21:57

Rory

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 18/01/2011 22:00

I'm not a huge fna of Rory - not sure why, maybe because of the racing car but I know that is spelt differently!

I like Ewan, but prefer the Welsh spelling Iwan

vintageteacups · 18/01/2011 22:03

both lovely - my new little nephew is Rory but Ewan also cute.

Both are great names no matter what the age of the person too.

whoodoo · 18/01/2011 22:31

I have a euan- like loler I had issues with the sheepish spelling the other way. If I were to do Rory I would personally spell it the scots way but I'm in Scotland and appreciate the lifetime of misery he may experience explaining it to folk. Euan not too common in Scotland either so should be quite rare in england.

tummytickler · 18/01/2011 22:36

Ewan.
However, I prefer Douglas to both Rory and Ewan, and would go for DOuglas Ewan.
Douglas is a gorgeous name!

Duhart · 18/01/2011 22:52

Rory.

If I imagine them in my head, Ewan grows up to be a farmer, Douglas a solicitor and Rory a rockstar!
