After changing our minds again, DH & I have narrowed down to 2 girls names:

Lily Grace (Farrell)
or
Ella Grace (Farrell)

We both prefer differ - surprise surprise!!

What do you all think?

Still to get round to shortlisting boys names!

OP posts:

I prefer Lily Grace :)

nancythenaughtyfairy · 17/01/2011 22:07

Both beautiful. Think I might steer clear of EG for initials in case someone decided to call her Eggy in the future, but that's probably just me being OTT.

MungBeans · 17/01/2011 22:23

I prefer Lily Grace Smile

CharlieBoo · 17/01/2011 22:28

Ella only because every other child is called Lily or Millie round here...

cocoachannel · 17/01/2011 22:35

Whilst I'd go Lily, as we're inundated with Ellas!!

NanaNina · 17/01/2011 22:36

Agree with Charlieboo cus I think nearly every child in the class in 5 years time will be Lily, Ella, Grace, Chloe, etc. I read that Olivia is the most popular girls name in the Uk and Oliver has overtaken Jack as the most popular for years.

You may not mind popular names though.

cherubic · 17/01/2011 22:37

Lily Grace

stressedbutluvem · 17/01/2011 22:38

Definately Lily

EricNorthmansMistress · 17/01/2011 23:04

They are both lovely but Lily and Ella both very popular, as is Grace for a MN. I prefer Lily myself, but I think I'd try to go for a less used MN.

BibiBelle · 17/01/2011 23:05

They're lovely choices, both of them and please don't be put off by people saying that they're too popular

wait and see which she looks more like Smile

RachelHRD · 17/01/2011 23:25

I have an Ella Sophia so I have a slight bias Wink

Hedwig3 · 18/01/2011 09:35

Ella

ShowOfHands · 18/01/2011 09:40

Well it's not necessarily boring to point it out Bibi. Because what happens, is that a name ceases to be the beautiful name it is and becomes 'oh another one'. Like it's a noise people make when referring to a child as opposed to a name. And it dates so quickly. You end up with Ella G, Ella F, Big Ella, Blonde Ella and Ella Glasses because they've become legion.

Yes there's nothing wrong with it and they became popular for a reason but it's the same as decor. Yes your stripped floor, rug and accent art is very nice but dear God I'm sick of seeing it.

They're both fine but yes popularity just changes the way people hear them.

BuntyPenfold · 18/01/2011 09:40

Lily

ShowOfHands · 18/01/2011 09:41

And my child has a popular name btw!

sonniboo · 18/01/2011 10:47

Both cute names but yes they are both incredibly common and will probably start to date soon as people tire of them. This may or may not bother you, of course. But you did ask us for our opinions Smile.

Nothing wrong with popular, but agree with other poster that a name can be too popular. If its first baby as well there's less chance of poster being aware of this.

Both my kids have top 30 names btw, popularity is fine, its just where I live Lily is soooo popular....

Love Grace as a first name btw..

5DollarShake · 18/01/2011 12:50

SOH - you've summed it up so well. If we ever have a 2nd DD, DH wants to call her Ava and while I think it's such a pretty name, it becomes meh when there are so may of them. It just does. And it dates. Everyone thought names like Karen and Joanne and Claire were that pretty in the 70s that they called every other child one of them, and now, as pretty as those names intrinsically are, they're also meh. And dated. Simply because of the preponderance of them.

But that obviously won't matter to some people and if it doesn't, then great - go with the name. It's hard enough choosing a name as it is! :)

5DollarShake · 18/01/2011 12:52

Oh, and my vote's also for Grace - definitely the most classic and elegant of all three names :)

ShowOfHands · 18/01/2011 12:54

Yup. Everybody my age is called Louise or Emma. And middle name Jane.

All girls now have the middle names Rose, May/Mae or Grace.

That's why it dates. The saturation.

Used as a first name however, you're being quite refreshing. Grace and Rose are excellent first names and don't deserve to be relegated to middle names all the time.

OmniumAndGatherum · 18/01/2011 12:56

Agree with ShowOfHands. I'd have a complete re-think myself (sorry).

4andnotout · 18/01/2011 12:58

I prefer Lily Grace :)

I'm very biased though as dd4 is Tilly-Grace and her surname is Lilley :)

I haven't bothered to check the stats, but I think Grace was in the top 3 last yr, or at least higher than Ella or Lily.

All three names are very popular, but that's I guess for a reason, they're very pretty, and I guess the OP knows they are and isn't bothered by it?

Out of the two, I'd choose Ella because I like Ella Fitzgerald.
