After changing our minds again, DH & I have narrowed down to 2 girls names:

Lily Grace (Farrell)
or
Ella Grace (Farrell)

We both prefer differ - surprise surprise!!

What do you all think?

Still to get round to shortlisting boys names!

[too many 'I guesses' - blames american bf]

4andnotout · 18/01/2011 13:05

No It's Tilly-Grace Lilley not Tilly Lilley.

Or Til-Lil? Or Tiggy-Liggy? It's ripe for some cute nn Smile. DS1 is going to get similar no doubt.

4andnotout · 18/01/2011 13:50

She mainly gets called Tilly the Terrible Grin

All four of my girls have double barrelled first names and use both parts, I think it being a tiny primary helps :)

chaya5738 · 18/01/2011 14:20

I reckon scrap them both and choose something less popular and that you both agree upon.

rachel1970 · 18/01/2011 14:25

I know so, so many little Lilys, Evies, Ellas that I do find the names a little unimaginative and dull at this point.

flopsy1974 · 18/01/2011 15:25

Both lovley but prefer Lily Grace.

sophiesmummie · 18/01/2011 15:38

4andnotout, is your dd really called Lilly Tilley - great alliteration and easy to remember Smile.

Personally I agree that Lilly and Ella are very popular. That would put me off a little, but it may not bother you. I think I prefer Ella.

shouldnotbehere · 18/01/2011 15:39

Ella.

StarlightPrincess · 18/01/2011 15:42

I prefer Ella.

RachelHRD · 18/01/2011 15:44

Sometimes it depends what is popular in your area. I have an Ella but don't know of another one in DS or DD's circle of friends.

NannyState · 18/01/2011 15:44

Lily

saffy85 · 18/01/2011 17:09

Lily. But then I'm biased! Grin

Both are popular names.... BUT they're popular for a reason! They're lovely names. Smile

Edmundo · 18/01/2011 17:13

I think Ella's more timeless but I prefer Lily.

Whelk · 18/01/2011 19:18

Ella is a beautiful name.
I like Lily too but Ella has a certain elegance to it.

JamieLeeCurtis · 18/01/2011 19:22

I also agree with SOH.

Both are very very popular

What about Grace as the first name. It's lovely

piratecat · 18/01/2011 19:30

there is no doubt they are all lovely names, but there are so so many of them.

my dd is 8 now and Lily and Ella's were popular back then and have continued to be so.

What about Emma, it's such a sweet name. Emma Grace?

sighnomore · 18/01/2011 19:38

I like both but prefer lily grace. I agree with other posters about grace being beautiful for a first name. Thinking about lily as shortened frn of eliZabeth what abouth Beth? I think it's beautiful :)

Squaredance · 18/01/2011 19:55

Ella Grace. Grace is everywhere as a first name, more so than Ella. I predict Grace will overtake Olivia as the No1 name in about 2 years and stay there for about 10 years Smile. Lily (to me) is a little bit.. how can I put this nicely without offending lots of people?? I put it in the same bracket as Samantha or Sharon 30 years ago. There.

BibiBelle · 18/01/2011 20:59

what annoys me about the whole popular issue is that it isn't relevant in certain places.

DD1 is Ella. She is the ONLY ONE WE KNOW and she is 7! It might be popular in London, the SE etc etc but it may not be popular where the OP is.

DD2 was given what we considered to be a less popular name that we loved and we know 3 her age who will all be in the same high school Hmm

you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't!!

Please don't be put off a name you love just because others say it's popular.

piratecat · 18/01/2011 21:37

yes but in the future, wherever your child ends up living working etc... she will most likely come across a few more than the norm?

Ella, i know 3 i live in rural devon.

Lily, the same amount. all 6 or 7.

just so many names with an 'a' on the end. i should know, my dd is one of them, but thankfully we have yet to hear of one or meet one!!

airborne · 18/01/2011 21:42

Combine the two and have Lila Grace! Smile

chaya5738 · 19/01/2011 11:28

Yes, I prefer Lila (as airborne suggest) or Lilia.

Whelk · 19/01/2011 11:33

Well said BibiBelle.

'A name ceases to be a name but a noise you make when referring to your child' - What utter nonsense ShowofHands! And not a little mean.
