Asa.

Love this name and not many of them about. What do you think of it?

I know two, strangely - plus there is Asa Briggs the historian.

deemented · 16/01/2011 14:38

How would it be pronounced? Is it Ass-a, or A-sah?

Not very keen either way, tbh.

LazyParenting · 16/01/2011 14:41

A-sah, I think.

"The Death of Asa" or "Asa's Tod" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music imo. It's part of

purplepidjin · 16/01/2011 14:56

PS think it's pronounced Ay-sah

TheMonster · 16/01/2011 14:56

I quite like it.

LazyParenting · 16/01/2011 14:56

Yes Ay-sah. Should have put the Y in.

onimolap · 16/01/2011 14:58

I quite like it. The only one I've ever met in RL was a Labrador.

TheMonster · 16/01/2011 14:58

Actually, if it was spelt Aysa, it would take out the chance of teachers at school first pronoucing it Ars-a. Can you imagine the teasing if that happened?

purplepidjin · 16/01/2011 15:01

AFAIK, BodyOfEeyore, it's a Scandinavian boy's name. I would see Aysa and think it was a girl's name...

onimolap · 16/01/2011 15:01

I'd leave the spelling in the usual form, not least as Aysa looks much more like a girls' name.

LazyParenting · 16/01/2011 15:02

Its Hebrew and means Healer or Doctor AFAIK.

I like it alot - i also thought of Asa Briggs.

weimy · 16/01/2011 15:14

i know an asa his sister is called freya. I like it :)

suwoo · 16/01/2011 15:17

I love it and really wanted it for DS2 but chickened out. I think 'Acer' it is a better illustration of how it is pronounced.

purplepidjin · 16/01/2011 15:20

Hmm, suwoo as a writtne pronunciation it's great, butnot sure spelling it that way would look too good - it's a brand of laptop isn't it?Grin

TheMonster · 16/01/2011 15:32

oh! I was thinking of Asa as a girl's name! Whoops.

mamadiva · 16/01/2011 15:38

I know 2 Asa's, one of which is a complete tosser. It is a nice name though.

said · 16/01/2011 15:52

Great name. Older people will remember Asa Hartford (footballer)

EauRouge · 16/01/2011 15:59

I always think it looks like an acronym like Amateur Swimming Association or Advertising Standards Authority.

tammytoby · 16/01/2011 19:03

It is a very common Scandinavian GIRLS name. I have a good Swedish friend called Asa who is now in her late 30s.

tammytoby · 16/01/2011 19:07

Ã…sa is the correct way of spelling it in Swedish.

Rhubarbgarden · 16/01/2011 19:11

Don't like it.

cece · 16/01/2011 19:12

Not keen TBH

OddBodd · 16/01/2011 20:21

I nwent to school with a boy called Asa, he was lovely. Really clever and kind. On those grounds only I am going to say yes! It's nice.
