honest opinion?

stop asking people and call your baby whatever you like Smile

GandalfyCarawak · 12/01/2011 13:47

I know loads of Ethans, and that would bother me, but if you don't mind him being in school with 5 others, I like the name in itself. Sebastian to me it the crab from The Little Mermaid, but I'm weird like that. :)

Evelyn is lovely. Dorothy is cool, and Grace is nice but popular.

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 13:50

I truly wish i could do that. When we named our DD Rose Angel Ann, we went with what we loved and have over the years had so many people moan and whine about the name we chose that now im terrified it will happen all over again. It also happened with our DS Dylan Bryn. Now im completely paranoid what people think as opposed to what they are telling me they think. I know the ladies on here will be completely honest with me.

i know what you mean about Ethan being popular. ideally i would have Sebastian Ethan but DH loves the name Ethan so have kind of given in to having the names his way around.

Grace was added as Evelyn Dorothy just dint sound finished to us. It was either Grace or Paige but we know alot of little girls called Paige but non called Grace.

Really?! People moan and whine about the names you chose? Maybe you need some new friends!

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 13:59

I wish I could but the main ones to moan were family

Just want to add that Dylan Bryn is a bloody brilliant name.

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 14:03

OK - Honestly? I think you are MAD to ask what people think and madder still to pay any attention to anyone saying anything about the name you choose for your child.

However, if you want opinions - here is mine - brace yourself.

Ethan is OK.
Sebastian isn't great, but middle name so not that important.

Evelyn - dated, boring and frumpy
Dorothy - unless she's friends with the tin man - no
Grace - much nicer
Paige - nice as well

Sorry, but you did ask!

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 14:05

we love it too. my DH chose Dylan and wanted to name the baby after his best friend who has been there through everything with him so we ended up with Dylan Bryn.

ChippingIn - Many Thanks for your honest oppinion. Its greatly appreciated.

shouldnotbehere · 12/01/2011 14:08

Both lovely. Evelyn isnt dated, boring and frumpy, it is a lovely name. It's one of my favourites.

I like all your names, except I prefer Dorothy as a middle name (nn Dot springs to mind). I also prefer Grace as a middle name, too close to Grease as a first name choice IMO.

Your boys names are lovely.

shouldnotbehere · 12/01/2011 14:10

I should add I prefer Grace to Paige.

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 14:16

Oh sorry 'shouldnotbehere' I didn't realise that your opinions were the only valid ones - my mistake Hmm

HopeForBaby - I'm glad you appreciate the honesty if not the answer Grin and as I said, I think you should call the baby what you and DH like and tell anyone that utters a negative word to STFU mind their own business!

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 14:19

Thanks both of you.
With the waiting game im going through at the moment (waiting for amnisentesis results). This is actually helping distract me and keep me thinking positive.

Having peoples oppinions maters to me and I have no idea why it does!

For what its worth I think both your names are lovely, especially Ethan Sebastian. There are no Ethans that I know of around here so maybe its popularity is a regional thing. Prefer Grace to Paige. My family disliked my name for DS1 and do not like what I've chosen for DS3 (I know - shouldn't have even discussed it with them). Have decided to ignore them and go with what feels right for my our baby.

shouldnotbehere · 12/01/2011 14:26

Blush well we're all entitled to our opinions. There are lots of old-fashioned names, that seem to be popular, which I dont get at all, such as Sidney, Elsie, Martha and Mabel.

Fimbo · 12/01/2011 14:28

How are you pronouncing Evelyn - Eve lyn or Ev Lyn? I am Scottish so say Ev Lyn

Not that keen on it tbh.

Ethan is nice.

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 14:29

Evelyn will be pronounced Ev Lyn and if i can help it it wont be shortened to Eve or Evie or any of the other shortened versions either

HopeForBaby - good luck with the results. I sympathise with wanting opinions. After all, a child's name is often the first thing people know about them and associations are made, like it or not. Also know exactly what you mean about this MN business being a helpful distraction. My third, awaited baby was conceived soon after the death of my second son. It is a scary time and helps to have something bright and positive to concentrate on. Good luck, again!

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 15:08

Hope - Please don't chose a name you don't like the shortening of - you will drive yourself mad, you child mad and embarrass all her friends if you insist she be called her full name.

My parents still twitch when they hear my friends shorted my name and when my sibs & I shorten each others we still get the raised eyebrow and we're all over 30!!

When should you get your results?

Jojo - when are you due?

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 16:16

Evelyn is the only first name we have been able to agree on. I dont mind as she grows up and goes to school if it gets shortened i just personally dont like shortened versions of names whilst a child is still learning there name. Im Emily and was until I started school, ever since then ive been Ems or Emmie.

We should get the count results back between now and the end of Friday, those results will also be able to tell us if the baby is an Ethan or an Evelyn.

Baby is due June 4th but will arrive earlier by c-section somewhere after 32 weeks due to the severity of my bicornate womb. im hoping to go way past 32 weeks but they will asess that closer to the date.

ChippingIn · 12/01/2011 16:57

So - you have to keep busy between now and then don't you! Do you want to talk about the tests etc or not?

If you find out if it's an Ethan or an Evelyn will you start calling your bump that?

April
May
June

All girls names Grin

HopeForBaby · 12/01/2011 17:04

yep as soon as we know boy/girl we will start calling the bump that. At the moment bump is refered to as Westy Bump as thats a shortened version of our last name.
I have no problem in talking about the tests, i also had no problem allowing 2 student doctors and another doctor to be in the room whilst it was being done as they had never seen one done before only read about them as my hospital dont do many of them.
My DD and DS are hoping for a new brother.
My self and my husband are not fussed either way.
My DD wants to stay as daddys little princess
My DS says he already has a sister so why should he want another one.

LOL I love your childrens thinking!! Grin How old are they?

Why are you having the tests done? Are you high risk? It doesn't sound like you are considering the possibility of a termination if the results pick something up - do you just want to 'be prepared'? (feel free to ignore any of these questions).
