After batting around many many names we have narrowed our choices. Please can you give me your honest oppinion on the following names, all the friends and family i ask seem to go with "its lovely" "i like it" "its ok". im looking for good real and hpnest answers, if you like them or not id like to know.

Thank you

Ethan Sebastian

Grace still winning for my - I'm working on Evelyn growing on me Grin

FWIW I didn't like either of my god-daughters names, or my nieces/nephews (I think I'm hard to please!! :) ) but once they are here and named you don't really give it another though unless it's something completely daft like 'Superman' or 'Favourite'.

I'm 27 so don't fall into the age range marker and my anomaly scan was ok but my bloods came back high so they took a second set which also came back with the same chance. I'm high risk anyway due to having an almost completely split in two bicornate womb. We will probably not terminate no but we won't decide on that until we know the results and can look into more detail as to what each involves. We will have to go for not only what is best for the baby but also what is best for our 2 children. They are 6 and 5 so we have to consider the impact to their lives if something is confirmed. At the moment we are pretty sure we will not terminate however depending on how the results come back we may have to re assess our thinking. If it were just the 2 of us then we probably wouldn't have had the test done in the first place but we have to look put for our entire family so we went for the tests to allow us to prepare for anything negative. If there is something highlighted then we also need to start to prepare our children for what is to come as any new baby will need more of mommy and daddys attention where as a baby with extra requirements/needs (trying not to use the term disabled) will require more from mommy and daddy. Also there is the greater risk of the baby dieing before it's born, during birth or shortly after. All of these we can't address until the results are back.

Hope - :( It's sad to have to think about these things isn't it. You sound like you have both thought it through a lot and talked about how you both feel which is good. I understand what you mean about having to consider the children you already have as well. I hope your tests come back OK and you don't have to make that decision x

27 - oh I remember 27 - but it was a long time ago now :) It's probably why you don't have the same connections to Evelyn as us 'older' ones Grin she was everyone older, dowdy cousin - the one with the sense of humour bypass!! I am sure that the new generation Evelyns are just lovely Grin

I am still impressed with both of your childrens' reasoning with wanting a brother - especially DD's - that's foresight for a child so young! I was much older when I realised not having a sister was a good thing - being Daddy's only girl had its advantages :)

I'm with MrsvWoolf, love both names in reverse order....

Hopeforbaby, My best friend was recently pregnant, and I'm afraid that I did exactly the same thing when she asked about names....my answers varied from 'it's lovely' to 'it's ok'! The thing is, that most names are actually quite nice, and it's very rare to find a name (in my opinion) that really inspires a very negative reaction, and then someone would have to be rude enough to say so! Her names weren't especially my favourites, and mine aren't hers, but they are all nice names and I love the little person who now has them!

I like Evelyn (but wouldn't be sure how to pronounce it first time). Ethan also has a nice sound to it and I really like Sebastian. They're both quite popular and Evelyn will almost certainly end up being shortened to Eve or Evie at some point. But it's your opinion that counts and as long as you think they're beautiful names that's all that matters!

Good luck with the results. x

NannyState · 12/01/2011 20:17

Both nice names.

AnnOnimous · 12/01/2011 21:39

Love your boy's name, but personally don't like Dorothy, the other girl's names are fab.

fantastic news!Grin

Ethan Sebastien is okay. The girls name is horribly old fashioned.

ragged · 15/01/2011 17:11

I strongly dislike Ethan and Dorothy (they sound ugly to me), but Evelyn (pronounced how OP said, which is my aunt's name) is pretty cool.

diddl · 15/01/2011 17:35

Much prefer Sebastian.

Don´t like Evelyn or Dorothy-both very old lady imo.

onimolap · 15/01/2011 18:48

I think Ethan is lovely.

There's nothing wrong with Evelyn, but personally I don't like boys' names on girls, even though this one is fully unisex now.
