How popular is Imogen?

Having a late pregnancy wobble I think. Husband and I like more unusual (but not wildly outlandish) names and he's had his heart set on Imogen for a number of years. However, I'm concerned that it's growing in popularity and I don't want our daughter to be one of several in her class.

Do other people think it's getting popular, and how many little Imogens do you know (would be helpful to know whereabouts you are in the country too)?

I know one, she lives in York. I don't, but she does. Very pretty name.

SW London - Imogen has faded away where we are, we are on Clara, Eve/Eva/Ava/Lexie/ Olivia etc. Currently don't know of ant little Imogens, the ones we know are 7+

But of course who is to know?!

One 14yo, one 10yo and one 3yo.
Only one in my dc's school though, so not massively popular.

It's a lovely name

We're thinking of using the nn Molly as it's a name I like but wouldn't use as a given name.

My DD is Imogen (9 yo) and the only one in her school. We are in the East of England. We don't shorten her name but her friends call her Imo. I know of one other who is 8yo.

I htink Imogen is a name that is always around, but not in any great numbers.

I have one, but do not know of any other children (am in Surrey).

The only other one I have know was the sister of a school friend, so would be 30ish now.

I think it's a lovely name (obvously!)

We were keen on Ginny(pre-HArry Potter!) as a nn, but in the end she has ended up with a family nn.

Ana if it helps Imogen was number 32 out of 100 for England and Wales in 2009. 2010 stats not out till Oct 2011.

In Scotland it was 65!

I have an Imogen (she is 8 and was going to be ianthe but we chickened out 4 days before shge was born) - she is the only one in her year, but not in the school, there is a younger one (aged 6).
There is alos an older one at her dance class (aged 14)

I'm in the East Midlands - Nottinghamshire

She gets called Immy, Negomi (she had aphase of talking backwards), Imo (hate that) or Mimi but shortens her name to Mimo or Mimsy.

I know one 3 year old and two born recently. I personally get the feeling it might gain popularity, I'm in the midlands. It really is a beautiful name though

I know a 17 year old one, a 14 year old one, a 11 year old one, a 7 year old one and a 15 month old one

plus I have taught 5 or 6 in 14 years of teaching

I know three - my best friend who I've known for 34 years, my daughter (named after my best friend) and one other girl in my daughter's ballet class.

I've loved it since I was tiny and have never known any others since then - until I named my daughter it and I do think it's becoming more popular, but it's still a beautiful and, on the whole, unusual name. My best friend has Imi as a nn from me, but Imo from grown-up friends.

We have an Imogen. We call her Momo. A friend calls her friend Genie. Mo, Gen, Imo, Momo, Immy, Im... I think it's a great name.

I think there are 2 Imogens at DDs school but they are a lot older (junior shool age)

I met a girl called Imogen once during my childhood who was nn Midge
It still makes me smile now, possibly the cutest nickname ever

I know of one aged about two, I work with another one...she's about 18 and it was a name I had shortlisted for my dd, she is 15, and there was a spate of them the year before she was born, so we went with something else.

It's a lovely name but I agree probably increasing rather than decreasing in popularity, although I don't think that should put you off.

I know three under 3 but not all in same area.

I know 6, it's v. common round here (s. west england) not a fan, though probably because of association.

I agree with Catsmamma, many also aged around 13-18, and now a new wave of them.

I know only one (apart from an Imoen I was at school with many moons ago) - aged 3 and lives in Notts. Not a terribly common name, but not wildly unusual. I like it - a pretty name and good choice
