Hi everyone,

just wondered what your opinions are on these names?

OP posts:

Bruno.

Hassled · 01/01/2011 21:12

Hector.
Bruno is either a bear or a Sasha Baron Cohen character.

bigbluebump · 01/01/2011 21:14

Bruno.

The meaning of Hector would put me off.

rachel234 · 01/01/2011 21:16

Bruno - lovely!

Dislike Hector (and its meaning).

BaroqinAroundTheChristmasTree · 01/01/2011 21:18

neither - they're both dogs names.

exH had a staffie he looked after for a while called Hector - very cute puppy one - but it was still a dog.

and in Disney Cinderella she had a dog called Bruno

girliefriend · 01/01/2011 21:25

What does Hector mean Hmm !!! Not that keen on either tbh but Bruno would be more o.kay!!!

LetThereBeRock · 01/01/2011 21:40

They're both dreadful.

mopsyflopsy · 01/01/2011 21:43

Hector: v. t. [imp. & p. p. Hectored; p. pr. & vb. n. Hectoring.]: To treat with insolence; to threaten; to bully; hence, to torment by words; to tease; to taunt; to worry or irritate by bullying.

mopsyflopsy · 01/01/2011 21:45

Hector n. [From the Trojan warrior Hector, the son of Priam.] A bully; a blustering, turbulent, insolent, fellow; one who vexes or provokes.

Bruno is nice.

Don't like Hector at all, I'm afraid. Apart from the meaning, what nicknames could you use - Heck, Hecky Hmm.

tebbles · 01/01/2011 23:22

I don't like either very much but Bruno is better.

Nightstar · 01/01/2011 23:48

Hector

BarbieLovesKen · 01/01/2011 23:51

Oh I dont like either at all. Bruno is definately a dog's name to me.

purpleiris · 01/01/2011 23:52

I really don't want it to, but Hector always makes me think of Hannibal Lector! And Bruno - Frank! Really sorry!

hester · 02/01/2011 00:22

I'm fonder of Bruno, but that's because it's a family name.

Come to think of that, whenever there's a name on these threads that (a) is out of middle Europe in the middle of the last century, and (b) everybody hates, I can claim it within my family. Hedwig, Felix, Candida... just waiting for us to get on to Pincus.

ValiumTinselton · 02/01/2011 00:40

My son was almost a Bruno. My x didn't like it much but I almost had my way!

Not keen on Hector but I really love Victor. I know a few Hectors now. I think Victor is the new Hector. Wink

AnnOnimous · 02/01/2011 17:54

Hector is fab.

Sarsaparilllla · 02/01/2011 19:30

Don't really like either, Bruno reminds me of that horrible Sasha Barren Coen film

Like Valiums idea, Victor is nice and along those lines, or maybe Vincent?

upahill · 02/01/2011 19:32

Hector's house anyone? (probably just me!)

evamummy · 02/01/2011 19:32

Hector is awful - meaning and nickname potentials.

Bruno is much nicer imo.

Highlandgirl · 02/01/2011 20:38

In Greek Hector means 'Steadfast' or "Holding Fast'

Bruno is a dogs name..please pick Hector...! Smile

evamummy · 02/01/2011 20:41

Yes, but in English it means 'Bully'.

Deaddei · 02/01/2011 20:41

Vile names.

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 20:45

sorry to say this but really can't warm to either name.

highlystrung · 02/01/2011 21:06

My DD was going to be Bruno if she'd been a boy (obviously). Marvellous name and underused in my opinion.
