I'm due end of January and I am having a girl. I really love the name Greta as it is quite unusual, but also I think on the rise. I was just wondering what the general consensus was?

I think it's quite unusual. I would go for it if you like it.

I have a wonderful friend aged 70 called Greta. I love it but she gets called Greet!!

hambo · 22/12/2010 20:16

Love it - have a very cool friend called Greta.

ja9 · 22/12/2010 20:19

I LOVE it.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 22/12/2010 20:20

Really pleased to hear that you all seem to like it, but not too much I hope. Don't you all go stealing my name and making it as popular as Grace or Evie, ok?

I'm sorry, I don't like it, it sounds really harsh! Sorry.

i really like it, however i live in south east london and can just imagine that most people would say it without the t, which makes it not so nice.

blackcoffee · 22/12/2010 20:24

LittleYellowTeapot · 22/12/2010 21:25

polarfox · 22/12/2010 21:28

I think it sounds harsh too, bit Germanic and hard!!!

mathanxiety · 22/12/2010 22:46

Lovely, and it will never be in the top ten. Xmas Smile

purplefeet · 23/12/2010 13:56

Love Greta.

Is it short for Gretal - as in Hansel and ?

Nightstar · 23/12/2010 15:35

Just makes me think of the Sound of Music. At least it's not Liesel!

Very Austrian

littleElif · 23/12/2010 19:57

i love it. really wanted it for DD but my hubby was against it :-(

PressureDrop · 23/12/2010 19:59

Gorgeous. Love it.

GandalfyCarawak · 23/12/2010 21:00

LOVE it. BUt won't steal it. I'd pronounce it Gr-eh-ta not gr-ee-ta, but I am Welsh. :)

Jojay · 23/12/2010 21:02

Gorgeous. I used to have a horse called Allegreta, known as Greta for short, and the DC of our Pony Club was also called Greta.

So maybe not so unusual in horsy circles circa 1990 Xmas Grin

BerryinClover · 23/12/2010 21:18

But beware of cheese-greta.

MobyDick · 23/12/2010 21:23

I like it. I think its cute. hmmm will it be as good when she's grown up? yes I think so.

StarExpat · 23/12/2010 21:29

I have a good friend called Gretel. She's called Greta often - lovely names. She's a lovely person so it matters not what her name is... She could make any name gorgeous.
