Names with nice (or not) meanings...

Anybody know of any names (girls or boys) with really nice/interesting meanings....?? OR the opposite, names with not nice meanings...!!

My teenage son is called Cameron, nice Scottish name I thought - it means crooked nose :(
I still love it though :)

I love the name Eris. She is the goddess of strife, chaos and upheaval, and therefore it is a highly appropriate name for a newborn.

Andrew means "manly" which, when I think of the Andrews I know, makes me guffaw somewhat.

Lucy means "light" which is nice.

Rachel means "ewe" which wouldn't be my choice :)

Also Rebecca means "knotted cord", yummy.

Asher is lovely though, and means happy/laughing I think. Felix means happy as well.

Jonathan means "gift from God" and IME they usually act like god's gift too

The root of my name is Jacob, which means "the supplanter" (because Jacob supplanted Esau when he pretended to be Esau to get his fathers blessing) so really not a good meaning! I love my name though :)

My dd middle name is Nimah which is arabic for 'little blessing' and she really is most of the time.

And for a girl: Lillith - it means a shriek owl, and so by association, a nagging woman or shrew.

A friend told me that Brendan means 'stinking hair.'

Usually I don't focus on meanings but I learned that Benedict means blessing, and as I have been struggling to TTC#2 if we're lucky enough to have another DS I think we'll use Benedict (nn Ned).

Incidentally, DS1 wsa mightily peeved to find his middle name meant 'Pigkeeper', when the other two had a nice romantic 'Light' and 'Beloved' stuck in there -- be consistent across your tribe, is the message.

I love Claudia, but on here people often point out that it means "lame". I would still use it, though

I also like Serena - which I guess is derived fro "serenity"

Iris - apart from the eye connection, means Rainbow, which is about as nice as you can get

DD2 is Philippa- means 'lover of horses', which is interesting...

Had she been a boy, she would have been Isaac (laughter), which i think is a lovely meaning.

I don't worry about meanings, though- i would have loved to use Claudia, despite the meaning.
